  • A nice cabin, beautiful dock area, fantastic hot tub.... recommended!

"The cabin was nice and fairly new, we had a great time. Excellent climate control, everything that you need as far as kitchen equipment and supplies. Not a huge cabin and not much closet space, but mostly adequate. An excellent owner, and they will make sure that everything is in order for you. A couple nice places to boat to close by, be sure to hit the Switzerland on Sunday afternoon for an outside band on the deck with drinks and appetizers. It's directly across and slightly right, look for the green umbrellas. To the right of your dock and down by the point, look across for the Lakeside, nice outdoor dining and good food with a band playing. A couple oh by the ways, the hot tub is 165 steps down the hill, the dock at least another 165. The picture kinda leads you to believe that its next to the cabin, this would be an issue if you were older. This is no cheezy hot tub, but a really nice, large tub with a lot of jets in a gazebo. There is no place to park bigger than a 16' boat trailer and it's on a narrow dead end street with no turn around, plan to park at the State Park and leave your trailer ($7), a 6 mile boat ride back. Penn Yan has a free launch but $5 to park and its 11 miles away. 5 miles away is another launch, but $25 and they have to launch it for you. This cabin has a narrow driveway and semi-difficult to maneuver, don't plan to take your boat to the cabin to unload, it may not be possible. Bring lots of boat fenders for the guest dock, the lake is rough on the weekends and the paint on my boat got hammered. The cabin livingroom is pretty small, probably 7' x the width of the cabin with a really small TV on cable. The diningroom table is missing, the picnic table is in the eating area which is an enclosed porch but nice. You'll not find the fan control in the living room, its behind the china closet. Lighting is really bad, especially in the dining area and master bedroom. The exercise equipment in the ad does not exist, but hey, you're on vacation. A better description of the cabin is a 2 level + loft, not 3 stories as the ad says. I must say that everything was clean and well kept. The closest gas station is about 6 miles away by the State Park, they only accept cash. Penn Yan is 11 miles away and the closest place for supplies. Over all, I don't regret our decision to stay there and we had a great time. Plan to spend your nice evenings at the dock, in the lower yard around the fire pit, or soaking in the hot tub."

  • Family Fun!

"This cottage was in a beautiful location, and as the name implies, it is fairly secluded unlike most of the cottages by the lake. The lake was warm and unbelievably clean and clear. Not seaweedy. Not smelly. The kids spent a lot of time snorkeling and catching small fish in butterfly nets (My son is pretty good at it!). The kids also LOVED the swim platform that they could dive off of. The dock was good for tanning or fishing off of, and the mooring whips were great for stowing our little row boat and jet ski. The nights were beautiful especially given that the outdoor lighting makes it possible to view the waters calm clarity. The sunsets were gorgeous, too. We enjoyed building campfires in the fire pit which is located along the cottage's lengthy lake frontage. We spent most of our time outside (they have three tables out there!), but the inside was clean with a well-appointed kitchen. The family did enjoy the luxury of having wifi, a large flat-screen TV, and cable. It was great being so close to the town (Penn Yan) for grocery shopping (Tops) and breakfast (Mickey Ds and Dunkin Donuts). Also close to Seneca Farms where they're known for their ice cream and chicken dinners. There's even go-carts just a few doors down from Seneca Farms. Don't miss the nearby Windmill on Saturdays. My family (even extended family that came to visit for the day) ALL remarked on how wonderful this cottage was! What a way to bond with your children (ours were 8 and 11) and reunite with extended family! It was truly one of our BEST vacations. Thank you for sharing your cottage with us!"

  • Awesome views - constantly changing

"I stayed here Oct 11th thru the 14th 2013. This lake cottage had everything I was looking for. Right on the water and unbelievable views. Awesome sunsets and star lit skies! Close enough to town, 10 minutes at the most and far enough away if you like it quiet. The kitchen and bathroom were recently updated. Although it sleeps 6 you have to remember there is only one bathroom, which was fine for me since I was alone. The only other point I want to mention is there is a very steep incline to get to this property. Don't let that stop you unless the weather is adverse, then it could be treacherous. Since I was there in the fall, I can't speak for the activity on the lake. This property is at the south end of the lake and had mostly sun after noon this time of year, something to think about if you prefer sun over shade.Which I do!"

  • Serenity Now!

"If you seek seclusion, quiet surroundings and nature at your door step Grouse Haven is for you. It is only an hour away from our home. Yet, we felt we were a million miles away. That makes Grouse Haven a very special place for us."
