Recent Skaneateles Lake property reviews

  • Great location at the right price

"This was our first lake rental, and the owner was great to work with as we prepared for the trip. Always friendly and patient to answer questions. He's a font of great information about the lake and the area. We have a 20-yr old, 17-yr old, and almost 4-yr old. Traveling with a family that size, it can be tough to find a lakefront property in our price range. This was comparable price to a motel but the location can't be beat. We enjoyed a campfire on the lake front in front of the owner's property, skipping rocks, and chilling on the porch. The mailboat was definitely a highlight as other reviews have mentioned. As other reviewers have said, the cottage isn't fancy, but it's well-stocked. Our only issue is that we have one child who's particularly sensitive to dust, so she couldn't use any of the blankets provided in the cottage. We ended up buying a new one for her. Something to keep in mind. Our 4-year old was able to navigate the property and steps down to the lake without any problem. There's a picnic table on the front porch where we ate most of our meals. I did have a hard time with getting an even cooking temperature in the oven, but there's a toaster oven option, and the cooktop was fine. We tend to travel different places every year, but if a return to Skaneateles ends up on our radar, we'd definitely visit again."

  • Perfect R&R place!

"This cottage is shagri-la for anyone who wants a feeling of privacy in a beautiful place while still being a short mile drive to the village for convenience. The trees surrounding the property give one a feeling of seclusion and serenity, and a short walk down the drive will bring you to your own private waterfront area with your own dock, and beach chairs to sit on whilst reading or just enjoying the ambience this lake provides. I've rented several camps/cottages on Skaneateles, and this one is now far and away my favorite: reasonable rates, friendly--yet not intrusive--owners, everything you need in the way of kitchen supplies, and it's CLEAN! A couple I've rented haven't been, so this is a big plus! The best part, for me, is the lake itself: Skaneateles simply can't be beat for clean, clear water for swimming, boating, fishing. This time of year--late Sept./early Oct.--is great for a drive through the countryside, and if you take one, check out the Navarino Orchard, whether to pick some apples or just visit the store. It's very pretty and relaxing there, as well. All in all, I just can't wait to go back and stay in this cottage again next year. See you then, folks! And thanks for providing a wonderful place : )"

  • Lovely Historic Cottage

"Our family of five loved our stay at this cottage nestled between two ravines on a wooded lot. The house is immaculately clean, nicely maintained and just so charming, reflecting the historic character of a century-plus-old cottage that has provided generations of people with Skaneateles Lake fun and peaceful relaxation. The fresh flowers were a special welcoming touch. Our three children (ranging in ages from 6 to 14) found plenty to do, with a shallow and ample shoreline, excellent fishing, swimming and plenty of boats for our use. We brought a large air mattress with us and tied it to the boat bouy and the kids spent hours out there. The wooded hillside views from the dock are stunning. Evenings were spent reading or in Monopoly and card games on the front porch. No air conditioning was not a problem: while temps were in the 90's a few miles away, we felt comfortable during the day with the lake breezes, and at night the kids asked for extra blankets. A warning to late arrivals: we failed to notice before nightfall that the giant tree near the house was an oak, and the occasional acorns dropping on the metal roof were a noisy mystery to us until the next morning. Also, parents of young children should be aware there is no bathtub. All in all, a perfect summer week at Skaneateles Lake, which left our children teary at the prospect of departure and all of us anxious to return soon. We thank this family for sharing their lovely cottage."

  • Heavenly Place!

"This was our second stay at this cottage and boathouse and we certainly hope it will not be our last. It is just such a beautiful place that it's hard to even describe. The cottage is clean and comfortable and the bathroom and kitchen are perfectly comfortable and everything you need is right there. You can grill right outside the door and the patio is there with the table and chairs and what a view! The historic boathouse is so very special and the deck is amazing. We just love it and can't wait to return. The neighborhood is so beautiful and it is just a short, idyllic walk to town. We can't wait to return!"
