  • Loved this place!

"We just used this home for our family reunion and can recommend it heartily. It was spacious, clean, comfortable and charming. The cousins never got bored, between taking the paddle boat or canoe out, playing air hockey, billiards, swimming in the pool or playing hide and go seek all over the house. The kitchen is spacious and well stocked. We had J&J Gourmet from Red Hook cater our evening meals...they were helpful, timely, responsive, reasonably priced and the meals were quite delicious and varied. We all agreed that we'd look forward to using them again in the future!"

  • Charming, short weekend stay

"We rented the house primarily as a place to sleep while attending a wedding in nearby Herondale Farms and wound up wishing we had time to just hang around the house and enjoy the property and views. It is wonderfully secluded; no other homes are in view and there. There are woods behind the house and a wonderful large meadow in front. It is the owner's country home and is very warm and personal. Some of the other wedding party stayed in modern houses around Upper Rhoda Pond but they were furnished as rentals and did not have the personal warmth of someone's home. The refrigerator was stocked with the request that we use what we need, replace what we have used up and throw out what was expired. Nice! The house was spotless; the internet did work and that is essential since cell phone reception is nil. There is also a landline for use and the owner considerately provides calling cards for long distance. It took a while to convince the owner to give me the exact location so I could be sure it was the property I viewed on satellite images but seeing how secluded it is I understand why the owner wanted to be sure we were serious renters. The only complaints, that were only from one of my adult sons, was that the beds are very soft, almost like feather beds. My wife loved that! There are nice artisan stores in Millerton, 20 minutes SE on Hwy 8, a good grocery store, and a nearby Alpaca farm. There are a few stairs so it's not wheel chair friendly but I was on crutches and had no problem. It's a lovely, personal home for well behaved guests!"

  • Great Place for a Family Reunion

"Our family, with 6 adult couples, 3 additional adults, 3 little children and 2 babies rented this unit and the adjoining one with the same owner. We had 4 adult couples and 2 adults in this unit, with one adult in the den and another in a blowup bed in the living room -- not ideal, but it worked. The baby and one child shared a room with their parents, and two other small children had the double bed. The four bedrooms are spacious (one has only a double bed) and private. There are two outdoor showers, one adjoining a bedroom. There is also a pull-out couch in a small open den: the bed is fine, but the room is open so there's no privacy or sound insulation. The loft is really not useful for sleeping as it is accessed by a ladder and is very narrow and open to the double bed below: a fun place to play, maybe, but not safe for children to sleep and probably not comfortable for adults. Both houses were beautifully decorated, well appointed, and very clean. We asked and received extra cots, blow-up beds, cribs and high chairs. The kitchens were stocked with all sorts of appliances, pots and pans, dishes, cleaning supplies. The stove in 406384 was very high-end as was the barbecue grill. There was great seating for meals both inside and out. The docks had lovely seating as well. There were kayaks, canoes, a rowboat and a paddle boat. The lake was spectacular: the one downside is that you have to take a boat to a raft to access the water because there is too much vegetation and mud near the lake edge. The water at the raft was clear. We loved all the perennial plantings and made use of the vegetable gardens and blueberry bushes. Grocery shopping was a 20 minute drive, but there were a number of very nearby farm stands to get fresh corn, tomatoes, peaches, eggs, meat and other produce. We were pleasantly surprised that the bugs weren't too bad. We were able to eat dinner on the deck without even lighting the torches. During the day there were some gnats and we did use bug spray when we walked on the grass in the morning and evening. The rental agent was very helpful in answering our many questions and requisitioning extra beds. Overall, we highly recommend this house and its sister location."

  • Beautiful place to get away

"The Barn was a beautiful, spacious, unique, fantastic place for a group of 15 to enjoy a weekend. We had plenty of space to come together in the spacious kitchen and dining area, cooking and eating and enjoying time together, playing in the games area in the balcony, and enjoying the firepit outside. The lake is close and provides a great place to escape for a walk, a run, or a bike ride, and the Barn provides ways to enjoy all of it. The Barn was spotless, well appointed, and everyone loved it. I'd go back again and again."
