  • Comfortable, cozy, beautiful!

"We spent a long weekend in this beautiful log home while attending the Plantstock 2014 retreat at the Esselstyn farm in nearby Claverack. This home in Hillsdale is probably the nicest rental home we have ever stayed in. It is so beautifully decorated, yet comfortable and warm for relaxing. Love all the extra touches like great towels, well-equipped kitchen, and even instructions for the cable (my personal nemesis!) Loved having coffee on the deck in the early mornings while watching the deer. Everything was so easy, and the owner has been delightful to deal with. We will definitely be back!"

  • Gorgeous House! Amazing Property!

"We have been renting the house every winter for the last 6 ski seasons so we know and love the house well. It is extremely comfortable and the owners could not be more accommodating. They are very communicative and always have our enjoyment of the house as their number one priority. This is the first time we cam during the fall while the leaves were turning. Absolutely stunning! The house is secluded and completely private, surrounded by forest. The foliage was like being amid fireworks. The colors were gorgeous. We took advantage of hiking through the hills, lunching on the deck and taking in the views. We spent one afternoon at Catamount's adventure park (highly recommend!) and generally lounging in the house. This house is perfect for a group looking to get a away in comfort! Open kitchen and dining room, cozy bedrooms and stunning views."

  • Great getaway

"We stayed in the house for a week in late September. The place was perfect. Situated down a long, wooded and windy road, the house feels like it's in the middle of nowhere, which is great if you're trying to get out of the city for a weekend or just want to be alone. It's walking distance from town and only a few miles from some beautiful state parks. The living room is cozy, quaint and charming in a pastoral way. We lit the fireplace on cooler nights and for a minute, thought we'd never go back home. The large, screened porch is nice for nights when you want to relax outside and listen to the coyotes howling in the distance; It's otherworldly. Personally, this reviewer can't wait to get back up there. In addition, the owners are friendly, accommodating, and communicative. Highly recommended."

  • Charming, short weekend stay

"We rented the house primarily as a place to sleep while attending a wedding in nearby Herondale Farms and wound up wishing we had time to just hang around the house and enjoy the property and views. It is wonderfully secluded; no other homes are in view and there. There are woods behind the house and a wonderful large meadow in front. It is the owner's country home and is very warm and personal. Some of the other wedding party stayed in modern houses around Upper Rhoda Pond but they were furnished as rentals and did not have the personal warmth of someone's home. The refrigerator was stocked with the request that we use what we need, replace what we have used up and throw out what was expired. Nice! The house was spotless; the internet did work and that is essential since cell phone reception is nil. There is also a landline for use and the owner considerately provides calling cards for long distance. It took a while to convince the owner to give me the exact location so I could be sure it was the property I viewed on satellite images but seeing how secluded it is I understand why the owner wanted to be sure we were serious renters. The only complaints, that were only from one of my adult sons, was that the beds are very soft, almost like feather beds. My wife loved that! There are nice artisan stores in Millerton, 20 minutes SE on Hwy 8, a good grocery store, and a nearby Alpaca farm. There are a few stairs so it's not wheel chair friendly but I was on crutches and had no problem. It's a lovely, personal home for well behaved guests!"
