  • Our Family

"This place is perfect for any family or friends wishing to spend some quality time together. The house is very comfortable. The surrounding property is gorgeous. The owners are very helpful and made sure everything was just as described. We liked it so much, we booked a second stay. Restaurants and supermarkets are 20 to 35 minutes away. Many places to visit, but we spent most of our time enjoying the relaxation and immediate surroundings. If you book this place, you won't be disappointed."

  • Wonderful home, wonderful owner!

"We had several families share this house for a total of 12 people. There was plenty of room and everyone loved the house. We had young children, teenagers and grandmothers in our group. We loved the lake and the pontoon boat was a treat. The kitchen is wonderful - and is better stocked than most rentals. We will rent this home again when in the area and I've shared the details with other friends who plan to visit. Tons of apple orchards nearby if you're visiting in the fall. Tara House is a great find. Thanks Kevin! P.S. - The best place to shop for groceries nearby is the Price Chopper in Warwick. Very clean newer store with a high end feel, deli, bakery and eatery. It's less than 20 minutes away and prices and selection better than the walmart 30 minutes away."

  • An incredible fall getaway with close friends and our labrador

"Our weekend getaway to Idle Hour Farm exceeded all expectations. In fact, I would say it was the best weekend of my life. A group of 10 of us New York City dwellers packed our bags for what inevitably became a relaxing, rejuvenating, and inexplicably delightful stay. The pictures are lovely, but hardly do the place justice. It's hard to capture that end-of-summer / beginning-of-fall magic. The leaves were turning colors and beginning to fall, and the way the sunlight hit the lake and the illuminated the golden colors of the leaves in the backyard was just stunning. Our labrador had his first swim in the lake / pond out back, and was so happy to have so much freedom to run around and play fetch and to nap in the sun. We really lucked out with 80 degree weather, and some of the group went swimming and took the little paddleboat out onto the water. At night, we used the propane grill to make a feast of grilled vegetables, burgers, hot dogs, and the works. The little beach near the water became the perfect place to gather around the bonfire pit, roasting s'mores (it was a first for the Australian and Swede who were with us) and listening to my boyfriend play the guitar by the campfire. Two from our group went on a nearby scenic hike that Susan had recommended, to the Fire Tower. We had planned to go to the nearby vineyard for a wine tasting and to the orchard for apple picking but we just couldn't pull ourselves away from the house. It was everything we needed and more. There was plenty of space for the 10 of us, with big, comfortable rooms, an open office that perfectly fit an air mattress, and two huge, comfy couches down in the basement. The basement area became our hangout spot for the first night, where there was also a nice, well-equipped kitchen with all the amenities you could need, and a great dining room table. We listened to music and relaxed downstairs for the night. The next evening, we played Scrabble out on the expansive deck and continued to relax out there through dinnertime; the table fit our entire feast (cupcakes and wine and all) and was just wonderful. Everyone had an absolutely amazing time. It was certainly a weekend we'll all remember for years to come. Thank you Susan, for sharing your beautiful home with us for the weekend."

  • Lovely, charming place, highly recommended

"Stayed a week with my family and friends in this lovely little home. We spent most of our time sitting in the grass, cooking, or in the pool, and we couldn't have been happier. The place is tidy but not fancy, comfortable beds, we would have stayed another month if we could have. Hosts were very welcoming and helpful. It's a great biking area, a nearby and very inexpensive yoga studio, a food coop."
