  • Wonderful Getaway

"My boyfriend and I wanted to spend a relaxing weekend outside of the city, and Sterrett's High Falls rental was just that! Even though the West Wing is shared with the main house, it felt like we had the place to ourselves. The property is absolutely stunning, and the owners have truly put love and care into both the interior and exterior of the home. We loved the cozy furnishing inside (and the radiant heated floors!) and the amazing lawn surrounding the house. Also, the private path down to the creek was a real treat. Sterrett is a truly lovely host who provided us with a very comprehensive guide prior to arriving outlining the attractions and dining options in the area. Each recommendation was better than the next! While visiting, Sterrett was also able to introduce us to her friend Jeanette, who cooked us a delicious private dinner in her home across the street. It was definitely one of the trip's highlights and you shouldn't miss it! Overall, this rental is a real gem in the Hudson Valley, and a great value! We will certainly be back again as soon as we can!"

  • Great Place for a Family Reunion

"Our family, with 6 adult couples, 3 additional adults, 3 little children and 2 babies rented this unit and the adjoining one with the same owner. We had 4 adult couples and 2 adults in this unit, with one adult in the den and another in a blowup bed in the living room -- not ideal, but it worked. The baby and one child shared a room with their parents, and two other small children had the double bed. The four bedrooms are spacious (one has only a double bed) and private. There are two outdoor showers, one adjoining a bedroom. There is also a pull-out couch in a small open den: the bed is fine, but the room is open so there's no privacy or sound insulation. The loft is really not useful for sleeping as it is accessed by a ladder and is very narrow and open to the double bed below: a fun place to play, maybe, but not safe for children to sleep and probably not comfortable for adults. Both houses were beautifully decorated, well appointed, and very clean. We asked and received extra cots, blow-up beds, cribs and high chairs. The kitchens were stocked with all sorts of appliances, pots and pans, dishes, cleaning supplies. The stove in 406384 was very high-end as was the barbecue grill. There was great seating for meals both inside and out. The docks had lovely seating as well. There were kayaks, canoes, a rowboat and a paddle boat. The lake was spectacular: the one downside is that you have to take a boat to a raft to access the water because there is too much vegetation and mud near the lake edge. The water at the raft was clear. We loved all the perennial plantings and made use of the vegetable gardens and blueberry bushes. Grocery shopping was a 20 minute drive, but there were a number of very nearby farm stands to get fresh corn, tomatoes, peaches, eggs, meat and other produce. We were pleasantly surprised that the bugs weren't too bad. We were able to eat dinner on the deck without even lighting the torches. During the day there were some gnats and we did use bug spray when we walked on the grass in the morning and evening. The rental agent was very helpful in answering our many questions and requisitioning extra beds. Overall, we highly recommend this house and its sister location."

  • If You're Going to Bard College

"We loved our stay at this property! The woodsy setting and natural feel of the home's appointments really made it for us. There was plenty of room for everyone and the owner was a delight to work with. The only drawback was the showers - we couldn't figure out the hot/cold water scheme. Otherwise, a wonderful place to stay!"

  • Excellent getaway

"What an idyllic location! The sunrises, the sunsets across the lake, the quiet, it was perfect for much-needed R&R. The house was per the description and photos and was comfortably prepared for us, complete with towels and all basic necessities (and then some - sugar for the coffee was appreciated!) We were able to swim, to do day-trips, and the location is convenient for any shopping required as well. As a previous reviewer noted, the house is not accessible if you can't climb stairs - not an issue for us, but should be considered for anyone with accessibility issues."
