  • Great Place for a Family Reunion

"Our family, with 6 adult couples, 3 additional adults, 3 little children and 2 babies rented this unit and the adjoining one with the same owner. We had 4 adult couples and 2 adults in this unit, with one adult in the den and another in a blowup bed in the living room -- not ideal, but it worked. The baby and one child shared a room with their parents, and two other small children had the double bed. The four bedrooms are spacious (one has only a double bed) and private. There are two outdoor showers, one adjoining a bedroom. There is also a pull-out couch in a small open den: the bed is fine, but the room is open so there's no privacy or sound insulation. The loft is really not useful for sleeping as it is accessed by a ladder and is very narrow and open to the double bed below: a fun place to play, maybe, but not safe for children to sleep and probably not comfortable for adults. Both houses were beautifully decorated, well appointed, and very clean. We asked and received extra cots, blow-up beds, cribs and high chairs. The kitchens were stocked with all sorts of appliances, pots and pans, dishes, cleaning supplies. The stove in 406384 was very high-end as was the barbecue grill. There was great seating for meals both inside and out. The docks had lovely seating as well. There were kayaks, canoes, a rowboat and a paddle boat. The lake was spectacular: the one downside is that you have to take a boat to a raft to access the water because there is too much vegetation and mud near the lake edge. The water at the raft was clear. We loved all the perennial plantings and made use of the vegetable gardens and blueberry bushes. Grocery shopping was a 20 minute drive, but there were a number of very nearby farm stands to get fresh corn, tomatoes, peaches, eggs, meat and other produce. We were pleasantly surprised that the bugs weren't too bad. We were able to eat dinner on the deck without even lighting the torches. During the day there were some gnats and we did use bug spray when we walked on the grass in the morning and evening. The rental agent was very helpful in answering our many questions and requisitioning extra beds. Overall, we highly recommend this house and its sister location."

  • Cozy, comfortable, and family friendly home

"We've now enjoyed the home twice and can say that this home offers a very comfortable stay in a great location. The home is well stocked and has a good layout, particularly for families. A short hike will get you to some beautiful falls and a short drive will get you to restaurants, grocery, etc. For Ukrainians, this is very close to Soyuzivka! The owner is available by phone and email and is very responsive. The one negative is that there is no central air conditioning and while generally this is just fine in the mountains, the few days of high heat and humidity made the upstairs bedrooms a bit uncomfortable for sleeping. But there are fans in the house and there can be a generous breeze when the windows and doors are open. Again, we enjoy the home very much and would stay again without hesitation."

  • The Perfect Respite'!

"We rented The Cottage for the entire month of May while my husband was in the area for work. As a free-lance writer, I couldn't have been more pleased with the setting! Tucked at the back of the estate, it was as though I had the entire 100 acre historic estate to myself! My days consisted of writing, hiking and returning to The Cottage to enjoy the cozy warmth of the wood stove. Despite it's "away-from-it-all" feel, the property truly is centrally located with all the area's major attractions within easy driving distance. The village of Fishkill has some great restaurants - you won't want to miss The Tomato Cafe', the Maya Cafe' and Cantina, or the I-84 Diner! The Culinary Institute of America NY is also close by - I went for lunch whenever I could, sampling each of their restaurants. History buffs are in for a treat as there are many historic sites nearby. We already have plans to return to the area when my husband doesn't have to work so we can both enjoy all The Cottage, Willow Lake Farms and Dutchess County have to offer!"

  • Excellent getaway

"What an idyllic location! The sunrises, the sunsets across the lake, the quiet, it was perfect for much-needed R&R. The house was per the description and photos and was comfortably prepared for us, complete with towels and all basic necessities (and then some - sugar for the coffee was appreciated!) We were able to swim, to do day-trips, and the location is convenient for any shopping required as well. As a previous reviewer noted, the house is not accessible if you can't climb stairs - not an issue for us, but should be considered for anyone with accessibility issues."
