  • An incredible fall getaway with close friends and our labrador

"Our weekend getaway to Idle Hour Farm exceeded all expectations. In fact, I would say it was the best weekend of my life. A group of 10 of us New York City dwellers packed our bags for what inevitably became a relaxing, rejuvenating, and inexplicably delightful stay. The pictures are lovely, but hardly do the place justice. It's hard to capture that end-of-summer / beginning-of-fall magic. The leaves were turning colors and beginning to fall, and the way the sunlight hit the lake and the illuminated the golden colors of the leaves in the backyard was just stunning. Our labrador had his first swim in the lake / pond out back, and was so happy to have so much freedom to run around and play fetch and to nap in the sun. We really lucked out with 80 degree weather, and some of the group went swimming and took the little paddleboat out onto the water. At night, we used the propane grill to make a feast of grilled vegetables, burgers, hot dogs, and the works. The little beach near the water became the perfect place to gather around the bonfire pit, roasting s'mores (it was a first for the Australian and Swede who were with us) and listening to my boyfriend play the guitar by the campfire. Two from our group went on a nearby scenic hike that Susan had recommended, to the Fire Tower. We had planned to go to the nearby vineyard for a wine tasting and to the orchard for apple picking but we just couldn't pull ourselves away from the house. It was everything we needed and more. There was plenty of space for the 10 of us, with big, comfortable rooms, an open office that perfectly fit an air mattress, and two huge, comfy couches down in the basement. The basement area became our hangout spot for the first night, where there was also a nice, well-equipped kitchen with all the amenities you could need, and a great dining room table. We listened to music and relaxed downstairs for the night. The next evening, we played Scrabble out on the expansive deck and continued to relax out there through dinnertime; the table fit our entire feast (cupcakes and wine and all) and was just wonderful. Everyone had an absolutely amazing time. It was certainly a weekend we'll all remember for years to come. Thank you Susan, for sharing your beautiful home with us for the weekend."

  • Beautiful Guesthouse in the Woods

"My husband and I spent Columbus Day weekend in the Tree House. The listing description and photos are perfectly accurate --- except that the rental fee was slightly higher over the holiday weekend. The property is clean and beautifully maintained. We loved the views of the fall trees through the floor to ceiling windows all around the house. Barbara, the owner, was waiting at the front door when we arrived. She couldn't have been more welcoming. She made us feel very much at home and was able to answer any questions we had. We would definitely recommend this property to friends and relatives. Note, however, that the Tree House is only available on weekends and not at all during the winter."

  • Cozy Cottage

"This cozy, quaint, exquisitely decorated home is the perfect getaway. The home does not disappoint with it's quaint, 1920's charm. Direct access to a hiking trail from the backyard is perfect for nature lovers. We found the cottage to be very comfortable for our long term stay and our dogs loved it too. It's hard to find a truly pet friendly vacation rental and the owners are more than gracious in allowing well behaved pets to stay in their beautiful home."

  • Wonderful Cottage home

"Perfect cottage home. Beautiful big kitchen with views of the creek you can not beat. Minutes from Woodstock and stores yet still secluded and private. Very convenient. Would certainly stay again"
