Very enjoyable stay - highly recommended
"We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 night long weekend at 1871 House in NYC upper east side. The place has style - so much more interesting than another hotel that could be anywhere in the world. And genuine, helpful staff - far preferable to us than more hotel clones.
We stayed in the first floor front room - so just above the street. It wasn't the quietest or darkest room in the world - just regular Manhattan "ambience", and we weren't expecting Montana. Very comfortable beds, good bathroom, comfortable couch, chairs etc - all very well laid-out to make the most of a NY-sized space.
It is an absolutely fantastic location for museums, access to Central Park, and transport options - so the whole city is open to you. The local area is safe, friendly and clean... really nice for wandering around without anything to worry about. The downside of that is that the local restaurants seemed (the ones we found anyway) a little dull - no cutting edge experimentation, no cheap pizza etc ... think more bland a la carte, and over-priced cupcakes. But that's not 1871 House's fault, and the 'nice' local streets really do provide a perfect launch to whatever you want in NYC - just don't expect everything to be as close to your room as one of the world's best city parks and some of the world's best museums. i.e we really did have a very enjoyable stay."

"Five stars for this apartment!!! I would recommend it to anyone looking for a place to stay in NYC. If it's your first time, or you've been here before, this place will work for you. The location is everything, worth every penny. Close to like 9 major subway lines, minutes from Empire State Building, Chinatown, and so much more. There's 3-4 delis around the corner for quick food any time during the day or night and coffee. There's also a pizza place, a few bars, a CVS, and a huge grocery store/market. I stayed with my mom and boyfriend. The bed is enormous. Couch is comfy and pulls out, though we didn't use it. Loft is where my mom slept for some privacy. No problems with the TV or the wifi. Bathroom was great. Two big closets that we hid our suitcases in and hug up clothes. No noise in the building. Elevator was very convenient. Super that let us in was very sweet. We also saw him every morning mopping the floors, so the building is very clean. I really can't say enough great things about this place. Stay here for your next trip!!"
