  • Communication is key!

"We very much enjoyed our post-Christmas week in NY at this location. The location is really great, though during the busy holiday season, moving about by cab (particularly in the direction of downtown) can be quite challenging, given all the visitors in and around the Grand Central and Times Square areas. The apartment itself was quite nice; it was a very comfortable setting for us and our two young adult children. The problem that marred our visit a bit was the fact that no one was available, as had been promised, to enable us to understand the set-up inside the apartment. The concierge and building staff (who were VERY nice throughout our visit!) let us into the apartment, but no one knew where to locate the key that we were to use during our stay. The owner's "point person" was not around. Without him, we couldn't find the key, we didn't have a wi-fi access code, we couldn't find wash clothes (which we ending up buying), we didn't have any information about what was in the apt that was available for our use, nor were we able to secure the housekeeping arrangements we had inquired about. After spending our first day rummaging about through all the drawers, cabinets, nooks and crannies in the apt, that night we found a key tucked away in a very unlikely place. It wasn't until almost halfway thru our visit when the owner's point person returned from being out ill, that we were able to get all the information we needed. He was surprised to see us and said he had not been aware we were coming. Neither, he said was the housekeeping service, so that was something we were never able to arrange. The fact that no one was aware that we'd be in the apt really surprised us, since we had had quite a few communications with the owner. While we certainly did what we had to to enjoy ourselves and this lovely apt (thanks to the owner for the wine; it was a very nice touch!), the apparent lack of communication or miscommunication between the owner and his people that preceded our visit clearly detracted a bit from the overall experience. At the price we paid for this week, that was disappointing. Had the point person been available from the start to help us settle in, and had we been able to arrange housekeeping, it would have been perfect!"

  • Oasis in the city

"As I sit in this lovely apt. on our last morning here, enjoying a cup of tea, I just had to write to say how much we enjoyed our stay. I’d say the main attraction of this apt is location. Right off of 5th Ave., 3 blocks from the Empire State Bldg Observatory Entrance, and 2 subway stops from Times Square, this apt is ideally situated for exploring the city. I counted 3 main subway stations within walking distance of the apt! The apt is on a direct line to the 911 Memorial (R Train), to Times Square (R Train), Lincoln Center (no. 1 train) and to Bloomingdales (No 6 train). There are lots of great restaurants within walking distance. Take a right out of the bldg and walk to the end of the block for a great convenience store/deli, where I purchased our breakfast each morning to bring back to the apt. Delicious bagel sandwiches! S'Mac, on 33rd and 3rd is also an easy walk from the apt and offers wonderful dishes at a great price! There is also a Bread and Butter on 5th Ave and 31st that literally offers anything you could want to eat, from Korean food, Japanese food, Italian, to NYC deli. They offer a great hot buffet that is very reasonable. The owner was very responsive to any requests I had and was a true delight to work with. He provided a detailed account of the neighborhood and the location of all amnenities one might need, including laundry, gym, and grocery stores, as well as restaurant recommendations. The apt itself is very comfortable and provides everything one might need during their stay. Tom has thoughtfully provided umbrellas in the closet, tea and coffee in the cupboard (along with many other condiments and toiletries) and the bed is one of the most comfortable that I have ever slept in. There is a full bathroom, including a tub. Those who are in the city for business will appreciate the large desk and desk lamp along with free wifi! The a/c worked wonderfully and was much appreciated during the muggy summer days. I can’t think of a single thing lacking in this apt. It was just my son and I on this trip, but there is a blow up mattress, so I’d think a family of 3 would also be quite comfortable here. The only caveat I would offer is that it is a 4th floor walk up, which might be challenging to the elderly or those with very young children, but for us, it was a welcome way to work off the delightful food we enjoyed in the city. Thanks again Tom for a wonderful stay."

  • Great hosts and townhome.

"Our experience at this cute little townhome was very nice. There were 4 of us and we all stayed very comfortably. This remodeled property was clean and very well-kept. We had absolutely no complaints about the townhome, with exception of a running toilet that we pointed out at the end of our stay, which certainly was no big deal. Tony immediately apologized and was going to have it taken care of ASAP. We didn't do much cooking (who spends time cooking when you are in New York?), but the kitchen had the things you need, which was all we cared about. Tony and Christine were awesome hosts and very responsive both before, during and after our arrival. There is a sweet small grocery store literally within a block, which was quite handy, and we did buy a few things we needed at the little "department" type store just across from the grocer. We flew into LaGuardia and took Uber (not a taxi). The travel time was about 20 minutes and cost us about $28 total. Not too shabby!! This was our first experience with the Uber app. If you have not used it, download the app before you get there. It's private people driving you around in lieu of high taxi fares. We used them 3 times while we were there to go to and from the airport, and one evening when we were too exhausted to do the subway to get home after a night a eating and drinking downtown. I do, however, have to point out that the neighborhood was a bit challenging for our tastes. We were safe and never felt threatened nor pan-handled, but we did have to walk to subways and buses through some very sketchy "activities" at times. The street the property is on was quiet for the most part, but Lexington Avenue had it's "moments." I would have to rate the neighborhood low. All in all, for the price, don't expect Manhattan...but this property was worth the stay. We experienced New York and all walks of life during our week there... and that was okay with us. Afterall, it's those interesting and colorful experiences that you remember most... right? We had plenty of fun and enjoyed our time. Thank you so much Tony & Christine."

  • Excellent Mid-Town Condo

"My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this apartment. First of all, absolutely great location. Just 2-3 blocks from the A-C-E subway line and Columbus Circle and the Park are just a few blocks away. We walked to all of the shows on 42nd to 46th Street. Great restaurants up and down 8th and 9th Avenues. The apartment is easy in and easy out, with no elevator or stair issues. Second, the inside of the apartment is great. Everything you could need and more. Full, high-end kitchen with all appliances and utensils. Bedroom is separate from the living room which is great if one of you wants to stay up and watch the big screen. Bedroom faces an extremely quiet court yard, and we slept late and peacefully!! We will definitely try to book this apartment on our next trip to NYC."
