  • Nice West Village Apartment with some issues

"First, let me say that the apartment is quite nice. Great location within easy walking distance of nice, winding West Village streets. The pictures are accurate and the apartment is large by West Village standards. But here are 3 things you should know. 1. The apartment has a smell of gas. It's not strong, but it did cause my wife and me some concern. We tracked it down and found that it was coming from a large gas stove in the kitchen. When we contacted Chris about it, he responded that it's an old stove with a lot of pilot lights, not to worry and to crack a window. 2. I've stayed in NYC often and of course the city is noisy, but I must say that this apartment has more siren noise than I've ever heard before. I attribute it to the hospital that is just down the block. 3. When we arrived, Chris was in the apartment [rather than leaving the keys with the doorman as agreed] and was unprepared for our arrival. He was very nice about it when we explained that, yes, we had rented the apartment for the weekend. He ran around and cleaned, offered us wine, etc. But still ... I'll just chalk it up to a mixup in his calendar since I haven't seen others post about this problem. So those are the issues. If none is a concern to you and you want a spacious apartment in the West Village, rent this one."

  • Great Apartment

"Highly recommend the apartment and Herrick Guest Services. The location was excellent. Great neighborhood with access to subway just a half block from the apartment. Info of nearby restaurants, cleaners, drugstore, etc. provided by Herrick was very helpful. Our greeter, Eva, couldn't have been nicer and more helpful! Why stay at a hotel when you have this option?"

  • Charming . . . indeed ! ! !

"After reading so many reviews through the years, I think it might be important to know that this review is being submitted by a couple in their mid-40's who are active, love to travel, and enjoy eating well, and who have been to NYC several times. That being said, this apartment/house was absolutely perfect for us. It was beautifully furnished and decorated, very clean, and the owners used the space so wisely. Also, I could write a paragraph devoted to the shower, but I will leave it at . . . there is plenty of hot water, and it is a powerful shower that seemed at times more like a sauna or steam treatment. Awesome! The description and pictures are very accurate. The owner was also kind enough to be flexible in accommodating our check-in and check-out times because of our flight times. Yes, it is beside a small, busy restaurant, and you can hear some kitchen activity at times, but we did not find it disturbing at all. We loved the neighborhood, and also found it to be an easy walk to either of the 2 subway stops nearby. Bottom line: If possible, we would stay here EVERY time we visited NYC. The restaurants that we most enjoyed were: Colicchio & Sons, Balthazar, Gramercy Tavern, Minetta Tavern, Suteishi, and Boqueria SoHo. Other diners/food places that we really liked were Sarge's Deli, French Roast, Faicco's, and Murray's. In past trips, we have experienced and enjoyed the tourist "mainstays." This trip, we enjoyed strolling The High Line, The Cloisters, the Financial District, Battery Park, The SeaPort, and Washington Square Park. For other fun, evening entertainment, we saw the Broadway musical, Chicago, we listened to live music at Terra Blues, and we visited Raines Law Room. A review is simply one person's opinion, so do your "research" and find places and attractions that interest you . . . and your fellow travelers. I hope you will be as lucky as we were to find a great place to stay."

  • West Village Palooza!

"Beautiful space, great character, elegant and functional, a charming retreat from the high energy of New York City when needed, but close to sights and sounds. Gorgeous Steinway Grand piano with a sound fit for Carnegie Hall will tempt any musician along for the trip. Jogging along the Hudson River just down the street, you can see the Statue of Liberty and the Freedom Tower. The townhouse is walking distance to the Subway or to Highline Park. It is located close to great bars and restaurants, many with historic significance (Olio e Piu, Malatesta, Cowgirl Cafe, The Stonewall Inn, White Horse Tavern), and stores (Joe Malone, Rag and Bone, Gourmet Garage). Great little thrift store at St. Luke's, too. But even in New York City, you might just want to stay home some time. There is a well appointed kitchen and lots of homey little spots to snuggle in. There are three large bedrooms, two and a half pretty bathrooms. Nesting might be preferred to sight-seeing sometimes. The Courtyard provides precious and comfortable outdoor space for morning coffee, evening cocktails or even dining. But most of all, your host is a total sweetheart. I will always remember this trip fondly."
