  • Nice mountain cabin!

"We stayed for a long weekend and enjoyed the cabin. Good for families, as we have 2 small kids and there was plenty of bedrooms. The kitchen is nicely stocked with all you need to cook there. Easy to get to, and close to the town with restaurants and shops."

  • Perfect!

"Our family of nine had a perfect stay at the Rocky Roost! Becky was more than helpful throughout, and responded quickly to any questions. There was plenty of firewood on hand for the entire weekend, which we used often. The house was very clean and had everything you needed in the kitchen. The location was perfect for skiing Sugar Mountain and tuning at Hawksnest. Would highly recommend this place to anyone, not only for the house and amenities, but for the owner as well. Thanks for letting us use your home!"

  • Easy communication and beautiful views

"We booked this house for a family vacation and had a good time. I have rented many houses through VRBO and always appreciate people giving pros and cons of the houses, so I hope this helps someone else. Pros: -Owners are very nice and QUICK to respond to messages -the house has lovely views and a great swing and hammock on the back deck. -the house has basic cleaning things in case you forget something at the store which is so awesome (some rental places we have been to have the house stripped bare) -the kitchen is well-stocked with pots, pans and utensils -the house is secluded and far from most things so we would recommend it for people who want to hole up for a while and not leave the house -the house has fun toys for kids Cons - -the house is secluded and it is far from most of the major hiking places. We should have clarified this when booking but just be aware that this house is about 30 minutes North of downtown Banner Elk and then you drive 30 additional minutes from there to get to hiking places. -there is no dishwasher -the lower level of the house where the queen bedroom is is in the basement so it has a strong musty/mildewy smell and you hear the air handler come on and off. -the air hockey table needs new disks We would recommend this house but just want people to understand what they are getting when they rent it."

  • Our Favorite Mountain Vacation

"We have been renting in Blowing Rock each summer with our family for the past 5 years. My daughter requested that we give this cabin away from Blowing Rock a try. She and friends had spent a weekend here during the winter and loved it. I was a bit worried about being so far from Blowing Rock but trust my daughter's judgement. The road to the cabin is curvy but not too difficult or long besides there is a lovely, long waterfall to pass if you taken the longer route up the mountain. The cabin and grounds are lovely. I have never seen such large hydrangeas. From the moment we arrived, we noticed hummingbirds darting around the front porch. Thinking the owner might have had a feeder up, we quickly purchased one and hung it on the front porch during our stay. We thoroughly enjoyed watching those little birds empty the feeder every two days! The inside of the cabin was perfect for us. We had two family members from the Netherlands visiting the first 4 days, along with our daughter and 2 grandchildren. Each floor has its own suite. The main and lower floors have gas fireplaces. It was necessary to use the one on the main floor on many occasions since there were a few chilly and rainy days. Upstairs also has a loft with a pull-out sofa that my 10 year old granddaughter knew was made just for her. The cabin is lovingly furnished to be so cozy and uncluttered. Nothing is missing. All is of very good quality. We were furnished with more towels than we could ever need. The kitchen includes every tool we wished for in exactly the spot that made most sense. We were thoughtfully allotted spacious cabinets for our own food. Everything was spotless. I fell in love with this cabin and hope that we have a chance to stay here many times in the future. Sitting on either of the 2 covered porches at the end of the day was as relaxing as it gets. By the way, Foscoe was a great location to do new exploring. The upper balcony had a view of Grandfather's Mountain. We were close to Linville Falls, Boone, Banner Elk, and Valley Cruces. Grandfather Vineyards which is spectacular was about 5 minutes away. Though we enjoyed eating most dinners at the house, many restaurants and grocery stores were very close by. Make sure to check our the peach cobbler at the Hampton Store on your next visit. The gallery next door is also a must."
