  • Wonderful place to stay!!

"My girlfriend and I stayed here for 6 days while visiting the area. We loved how it was out in the woods and away from everything else, even though it was only a 10 minute drive to Black Mountain. Our hosts were very gracious and everything was spotless and comfortable. The rate was much more affordable than other places in the area. I would highly recommend High Rock Cabin for anyone looking to get away for a night or a week!!"

  • Charming & Immaculate

"This is a beautiful and cozy home very close to downtown with every possible thing you could possibly need provided for you (except maybe wifi, but there are much better things to do in Black Mountain besides surf your computer so we didn't mind too much...we never even turned on the TV). It is quite possibly the cleanest rental home I've ever seen. The caretaker, Darlene, does a bang-up job and she really worked hard to turn the house around from the renters who vacated that day so we could get in before dinner. She has an impressive garden on the property and invited us to eat whatever we would like from it. The grounds are gorgeous and we loved lying in the grass under the massive oak in the front yard. The deck is fabulous and we enjoyed breakfasts out there at the huge handmade wooden table. We loved all the solar lighting outside greeting us when we returned home in the evening from nights out in Black Mountain. The upstairs bedroom is quite warm in the summer, but cooled down quickly at night with fans and the window open. We were 5 couples traveling together and Karen's other property next door, the Craftsman Cottage, provided us the extra 2 bedrooms we needed to accommodate everyone. I would highly recommend this property for your trip to Black Mountain."

  • Great Getaway!

"We had a wonderful time staying here for a week in mid-August. The owner is very helpful, friendly, and easy to work with, and the home is comfortable and very clean. It was easy to get to, although we did have trouble getting up the very steep driveway in our 15-passenger van the first night due to rain making it slick. We'd go back there in a heartbeat, and I'd definitely recommend it to family and friends. We had 8 people sleeping there with plenty of room to spare. We regret never being brave enough to try navigating the other areas of the mountain, as we were told the falls are absolutely beautiful, but we were able to visit other falls in the area such as Linville Falls and Chimney Rock's falls. We also made a trip to Boone to see the outdoor drama "Horn in the West" which was great; even better was the dinner you can opt to purchase before the play starts - I'm still drooling over those homemade mashed potatoes! Our day at Chimney Rock ended with an excellent dinner at Larkin's on the Lake, just east of Lake Lure - their fall-off-the-bone ribs were superb. Probably our best surprise, though, was the little nearby town of Black Mountain. We stopped just to take some photos by the giant rocking chairs, and decided to walk around the basic-looking downtown area. Little did we know that there would be surprising little turns, alleys, side streets all full of charming shops, local artisans, and friendly locals full of tips. We absolutely loved it there. I'd personally pass on the My Father's Pizza restaurant that is apparently pretty poplular; the pizza and lasagna were both pretty uninspired."

  • Virginia Annie

"This was our second visit (our first was in 2012), and it was every bit as wonderful and amazing as we remembered it. The view, the leaves and trees (both inside and out), the hot tub, the privacy, the coziness inside by the fire on a very stormy day, the bear running across the road and especially the owners for sharing their lovely home, make this a very special experience. We've rented several mountain cabins, but this is by far the best. And we will be looking forward to our next visit!"
