  • All together for an 80th birthday party!

"We really enjoyed our week at River's Ridge. Lana and Chuck were great - gave us all the details and info we needed. AND they left a beautiful bowl of fresh fruit and fresh flowers in vases throughout the house - such a sweet and beautiful touch (we kept those lovely flowers watered!). Our family has celebrated events together at many rental homes, and this is by far the best one we have rented. It was very spacious, leaving room for togetherness and privacy. Those of us playing loud games in the basement late at night were not heard by the early-to-bedders on the floor above. And since the huge basement is on a slope with doors and windows out to the lawn it's actually one of brightest areas of the house. The women gathered most mornings for coffee on the gazebo - sweet spot. And we loved learning how to use the Aga. In Asheville we did the Pubcycle (FUN) and some of us went to the chocolate lounge more than once. In Black Mountain, the Trailhead restaurant and Thai Basil were both very good. We LOVED that Lana and Chuck had a trail and waterfall guide at the house, and we took hikes most days. The Catawba Falls hike is fabulous. Not too strenuous and wonderful waterfalls. Strongly recommended!"

  • Creekside Vacation!

"Creekside Cottage is an excellent get-away destination. What an incredible vacation :). Thank you so much for allowing us to rent your fantastic cabin in beautiful Blowing Rock during the Thanksgiving Holiday. Mother Nature gifted us with a beautiful snowfall that gave the area a magical quality. We took full advantage of the cabin (including the awesome hot tub!), the trails around the cabin, the nearby towns and all the holiday festivities. (We even saw a local "radio" style production of "It's a Wonderful Life" by the town of Blowing Rock.) They did a fantastic job. We will definitely be renting it again the next time we need to "get away" from the beach lifestyle and head to the mountains :)."

  • Clean and Well-Equipped Cabin with Great Views

"We came here to spend a long Thanksgiving weekend with our parents. The cabin is new and has all the things you would need. We cooked Thanksgiving here and the kitchen was well stocked. The only concern we had is that the road leading to the cabin and the driveway are very steep. I'm sure most people would have SUVs and all wheel drive, but unfortunately we did not. I was aware of this from the ahead of time and did not think there would be snow yet, but it happened to snow the night we got there. Luckily we did not have to go anywhere for a few days. Just something to look out for in the winter months, but overall I would recommend this rental to anyone and we travel quite a bit."

  • This is what a home should be!

"Our vacation in the mountains was heaven, thanks to The Coal Train House. I cannot begin to express how much we enjoyed every single moment in this stunning home. The Coal Train House truly nurtures its occupants; it’s what a home should be! We were in awe of all the art: the woodworking, the pottery, the architecture. Every hour we discovered additional unique artistic creations: look at this awesome door knocker! look at this amazing game table! look at these gorgeous handmade mugs! It was so much fun to notice every detail of this aesthetically beautiful home. We also had fun exploring around the pond, along the train tracks, and down by the river. After exploring, we'd go back up to the house, sit on the deck with tea and admire the view. The train never failed to delight us, every time it went by. We cannot wait to go back to this marvelous property!"
