  • A lovely happy country place to get away and relax

"My wife and I stayed at Creekhouse for a week in November. We were highly pleased with how very clean this sweet country house was and how very comfortable the beds were. The care that the owner has taken with art pieces tastefully placed throughout the house and even in the rock garden outside, reflects the thoughtfulness given to their guests with a very special caring touch. The kitchen provides all you need to make any meal, and although we didn’t use it the outdoor grills and the inviting outdoor screened-in porch call you to enjoy the out-of-doors to the fullest. I enjoyed fishing in the stream where I caught trout for breakfast. I went site seeing and hiking on the famous Roan Mountain, which presents a scenic view to this sweet get-away gem. If you have an appreciation of art and artists, you will love Bakersville, with its long time influence from the Penland School of Art and Crafts. The community galleries, coffee shop, and local gathering places are frequented by artists of the area; so you can get to know them as well as their art. The National Historic Landmark that is the Penland School is not to be missed. My wife thoroughly enjoyed taking a class in jewelry making while I fully enjoyed the out of doors even in November. We will definitely plan another stay in Creekhouse; hopefully in Spring or Summer when we can make full use of the outdoors where we can enjoy the Creekside pergola or porch, or sit around the special place provided for an evening fire, or just simply relax in this really fine country get away. I can tell you from experience that November, or any time of year is a time to while away the hours at Creekhouse and forget your troubles. I was so inspired by the winter views of Roan Mountain, I completed a painting influenced by it during my week stay there. You will not in any way be disappointed if you choose your vacation stay at Creekhouse and we do look forward to our next stay there."

  • Wonderful, Wonderful Time!!!

"My son, My wife, and I spent three days at the Sugar Shack (over Thanksgiving weekend) and had a phenomenal time. Eric (the owner) was a true gentleman, and very accommodating, and informative. The place was very cozy and comfortable. Beautifully decorated and well equip with anything you could ever need at a home away from home. We can't wait to come back to the sugar shack again! Thanks Eric, I appreciate you greatly. Luis"

  • Peaceful View, Beautiful creek with waterfalls, Cozy and roomy cabin!

"I really can't think of anything that you might need for a wonderful stay - that this cabin does not provide. The feeling is that of a cabin - not rustic, but not a hands-off showplace either. Really, any weather would be advantageous here, because indoors is fun too! The view never gets old, and the hiking is so fun that even my athletic sister said it was the best hiking ever. Would go back tomorrow if I could!"

  • Wonderful Christmas Getaway

"After a long drive from Florida and fog covering the mountain as we wove our way up to the house we were thrilled to see such a beautiful home, exactly as pictured, only better. It was the size of a house, yet the cozy family feel of a cottage. Everyone had space to move around and we thoroughly enjoyed the game room downstairs with a pool table, shuffle board, darts and even an old labyrinth. It was very clean and well maintained. The kitchen was well appointed with just about anything you would need to cook and bake, including coffee makers, waffle makers, baking dishes, etc. I am only 5'2" so I found the counters a little high, as they are about 5 or 6 inches taller than normal counters, but it wasn't a problem. The view was lovely, even in winter, as we were able to watch the fog roll around on the lower mountains and valleys, or sometimes totally encase us. We were fortunate enough to wake up one morning to a wonderful winter wonderland with fog/water having frozen all over every branch, it was beautiful. We skied 3 days at Beech Mountain, and rented our gear from Beech Meadows, the owner was very helpful and the prices were good, they even sell lift tickets at a cheaper price. Our kids enjoyed sledding for free at the sledding hill beside town hall. The first few days were rainy, so we ventured over to the towns of Boone, and Valle Crucis and were told to stop by the General Mast stores, and the attached Candy Barrel. Definitely a fun store to visit, with a lot of history. We also visited the Linville Caverns, which were interesting for everyone. There are plenty of hiking trails all around this area that we would have liked to explore, but due to the rain we only did a short trail right near the house, then when the weather was cold enough we skied. Overall a great Mountain retreat, we would recommend to anyone!"
