"My husband and I and our 2 Rat Terriers stayed at Sara's cottage over Memorial Day weekend. We stabled our 2 horses at Blowing Rock Equestrian Preserve and rode the beautiful Moses Cone Park trails. We had a great time, the weather was perfect.
The cottage is cute and worked just fine for us. The price and location definitely makes this cottage one we would go back to again. I think that with attention to a few details this cottage could command a higher rental rate. The pictures are absolutely correct. Sara mentions the small TV and older appliances, so she is totally honest there. My husband would have liked a few more channels beyond just the free local channels provided. A bit more comfortable chair than the whicker one would be nice for relaxing and reading after a long ride. The exterior, as is mentioned by previous reviewers, does need a little TLC. But, we did just fine here and again we would go back."

"Thanks to Debbie and Don for another fabulous retreat to the NC mountains! After our third year of visiting the Newland cabin, you may ask, “Why do you come back, year after year?” This cozy cabin is tucked into the mountainside, surrounded by forest. Other than the owner’s adjacent home, no other homes are visible so there are no bright outdoor lights to dim the gorgeous starlit nights.
We love the fireplace and living room space-great for playing games and watching TV/DVRs. The front porch complete with rocking chairs is perfect for coffee and relaxing! The kitchen is well appointed, complete with dishwasher. A new washer & dryer are a great convenience, too. The loft bedroom is charming and includes a claw-foot tub-another relaxing touch! And, the cabin is always clean when we arrive!
Our two dogs love the trip, with lots of room to run without the danger of busy roads. Though the cabin is in the mountains, you are still close to Blowing Rock, Boone, Grandfather Mountain, the Blue Ridge Parkway, lots of great restaurants and graded hiking trails, too.
Debbie and Don are often here during our stay, but in their absence they are just a phone call away, posting their cell numbers. Local management personnel are also available, if other services are needed.
This is a perfect retreat for those who want to enjoy the outdoors in a peaceful and gorgeous setting! We will be back next year!!"

"This is a wonderful cabin! The owner was great to work with! One of the things that we liked most about the cabin was the open floor plan and the beautiful kitchen. I suggest staying in one day and spending the day cooking and lounging by the fire. You can't go wrong. Another thing that we really enjoyed about the cabin was the large wrap around deck. I'm sure that there are places to go to around the area, but we mainly hung out at the cabin and did some exploring around the neighborhood.
The owners mentioned that you would need 4WD to access the property. I think 4WD is only really necessary in bad weather. The road to the cabin is a short gravel road (maybe half a mile) that doesn't have any ruts, holes, or switchbacks, but it is very steep in a few parts. If you don't have 4WD or AWD I would suggest putting your car in second gear and getting a little momentum to help you make it to the top.
Again, this is a really great cabin. It was clean, inviting, and had everything that you need minus the groceries;P"

"Five Oaks is an adorable Lake Lure cottage convenient to everything. Owners, David and Penny, were so pleasant and made us feel at home. Though small, the cottage was the perfect size for our family, including six year old daughter and boykin spaniel. It had everything we needed relative to kitchen items and a grill on the deck. Views from the boat house and upper deck were amazing. We enjoyed a weekend filled with canoeing around the lake and jumping off the dock. Don't think twice about booking this wonderful cottage. We will most certainly be back."
