  • Loved the house and its view!

"The view from this property is almost 360 degrees and is awesome. The leaves were changing, which provided the most beautiful scenery. The house offers an enclosed porch, so you can take in the view from either inside the house or sitting in the comfort of the porch. The house itself is well stocked, with plenty of cookware, kitchen utensils and basic cooking needs. There is a wonderful Lowe's grocery store in Newland, for whatever else you might need. Beds were comfortable, the house was warm and cozy. It was a great stay, one which I hope to repeat next year."

  • Multigeneraltional Acommodations!

"High Haven was perfect for a three generaltional family gathering: little girls converted the top floor into a a cafe--$.50 bought a juice box an yogurt parfait but bring your own coffee; teens took the bottom floor; and grandparents and parents were on the main floor. There were books for all ages and tastes: mythology, travel history, fiction, spirituality, mysteries, art, science--something for everybody. There were board games galore, hoseshoes, badminton and balls but best of all was a hammock and lots of grass for playing. The 100 Acre Wood provided privacy and offered a quite place for turkeys to visit. We celebrated everyody's birthday with a cake from "Fabio's Restaurant" and games on the lawn. It was a great day! It was a great vacation!"

  • Amazing view, adorable cabin, great place!

"My fiancé and I were tired of the city and decided to retreat to this adorable cabin on the top of a ridge on 21 acres for a month. Look no further if you are looking for a great view, comfortable cabin with everything you need, and close enough to town for easy trips in for quick errands. Peg and David were amazing hosts. Once we settled in, Peg provided many options for hiking, sights to see, and answered any questions we had right away. The drive to the cabin for the first time ( and each time after ) was so exciting. It takes you through the trees slowly up until you reach the cabin, and the view and feeling you get up top is so peaceful. Linville Falls, great local restaurants, blue ridge parkway, lots of hiking, Grandfather Mountain, Boone and wineries just to name a few of the nearby attractions. We were also lucky enough to see an array of birds and a couple of deer visits as well. There's hiking right on the property too! We were just soooo happy and impressed with our decision, and if you are looking to get away to the peace of the woods, you will not be disappointed!!"

  • great location and nice amenities and Beautiful View!

"We came to cabin in dark of night with ice and snow on roads. We tried to contact the caretaker about the road condition but he did not call back, we heard from his son the next day. We would have stayed in hotel the first night if we knew that our cars would not make it up the hill because of so much ice and snow. But we are adventurers and hiked with all our belongings up to top of hill (.2 of mile) anyway in the blowing snow while leaving our cars parked at the bottom! Used the dustpan to shovel the snow off porch. Inside cabin was so comfortable with soft beds, lots of heat, and a fireplace! It was in the single digits that night. WE had a great thanksgiving dinner, and drove into Boone on Friday. Couldn't believe all the Christmas trees on top of cars. Went to all the shops there. Enjoyed having Sat. TV to watch all the important games. Hiked up to top of road and down a short trail. Beautiful in the snow. Finally got our cars up hill on Sat. morn to pack up. It was a very memorable trip with our family together for a great time. Just remember if there's ice and snow, get some chains!"
