  • All together for an 80th birthday party!

"We really enjoyed our week at River's Ridge. Lana and Chuck were great - gave us all the details and info we needed. AND they left a beautiful bowl of fresh fruit and fresh flowers in vases throughout the house - such a sweet and beautiful touch (we kept those lovely flowers watered!). Our family has celebrated events together at many rental homes, and this is by far the best one we have rented. It was very spacious, leaving room for togetherness and privacy. Those of us playing loud games in the basement late at night were not heard by the early-to-bedders on the floor above. And since the huge basement is on a slope with doors and windows out to the lawn it's actually one of brightest areas of the house. The women gathered most mornings for coffee on the gazebo - sweet spot. And we loved learning how to use the Aga. In Asheville we did the Pubcycle (FUN) and some of us went to the chocolate lounge more than once. In Black Mountain, the Trailhead restaurant and Thai Basil were both very good. We LOVED that Lana and Chuck had a trail and waterfall guide at the house, and we took hikes most days. The Catawba Falls hike is fabulous. Not too strenuous and wonderful waterfalls. Strongly recommended!"

  • A Stay In Paradise

"My husband and I, and our dog, spent 2 glorious months over the summer to escape the Florida heat. We would hike every day and eat out at some wonderful restaurants. The Farmers' Market in Boone in the summer time is so amazing and so much fun. That is where we bought our organic meats and vegetables, fresh cut flowers, honey, fresh made goat cheese, home made soaps, and of course all the beautiful quilting placemats and runners I bought for all seasons as well as gifts for family and friends from "The Quilting Biddies". They even have a farmer that roasts your red peppers as you wait. There are also musicians playing the fiddle and steel drums. There are also all varieties of baked goods. If you are a golfer there is a semi private course in great shape and provides a challenge. You can buy a 10 pack of green fees. The home is very comfortable , master bath quite large and the view from the deck of the Tennessee Mountains is spectacular. I love her refrigerator, I know that sounds crazy, wait till you see it! There are all sorts of activities to enjoy like rafting, canoeing, horseback riding as well as a fabulous outlet mall in Blowing Rock. If you choose instead to sit out on the deck and read with a glass of wine you will feel like you are in heaven! We did a lot of grilling and saw a lot of wild life in the area, coyotes, foxes, and wild turkeys. The only thing I regret is we didn't stay long enough. I would love to spend the entire summer there and breathe in that crystal clear mountain air. Enjoy! Cecile"

Old Fort Travel Tips

Old Fort Vacation Rentals Serve As Bridge to History

Named in the vein of the "old fort" living that proceeded the Revolutionary War, Old Fort vacation rentals scenically sit just east of Asheville at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains, near the head of the Catawba River and just off the Continental Divide. For more than 8,000 years, the cozy Western North Carolina town has reverently provided its lure of old-school charms and southern-styled hospitality. Persistent sounds of nature and flowing mountain air breezes make the appeal of trout or fly-fishing at nearby Newberry Creek all the more enticing. Private Blue Ridge Mountain cabins can offer cozy dining facilities, charmingly enhanced by native stone fireplaces, and fully kitchens replete with modern cabinetry; they also can offer the combination of spacious bedrooms and hand-crafted staircases leading to open-air loft spaces, which make your stay all the more heavenly.

Old Fort Cabin Living, New Age Tourism

At the heart of the Old Fort, Blue Ridge Mountains Resorts beat the pulse of exorbitant, charmed North Carolina living at its most rich and refined. Immerse yourself in attractions ranging from skiing at nearby resorts, hiking any one of several wondrous trails, climbing Grandfather Mountain, or simply chilling out via a rocker under the crystal blue skies and basking sunlight.

Old Fort Lodging, History Fully on Display

Explore North Carolina's history through the prism of a number of world famous museums, including the state-run Mountain Gateway, which features riveting exhibits on pioneer living bolstered by a pair of authentic log cabins from that era. Also, the nearby Carson House boasts exhibits that extensively delve into Civil War lore, including a wildly popular and historic Davy Crockett themed exhibit. And then there are the Appalachian Artisan Gallery and Old Fort Music Hall, where exhibitions exuding both handmade art and bluegrass themed music revues are likewise delightfully common.
