  • Peaceful!

"My family had such a wonderful stay at Troutsong! We felt tucked away in the woods...secluded and peaceful. Yet, we were only 10 minutes to the center of town! There are many wonderful activities to enjoy in the area (hiking, Tweetsie Railroad, gem mining), yet we spent several of our days just relaxing at the cabin. The porch swing overlooking the creek is perfection. The home included many nice touches that my daughters enjoyed (ages 7 and 9) including a piano, books, games, dolls, and a loft bed. The owners were wonderful to work with...quick to respond to any needs/changes/questions, yet gave us plenty of privacy. Highly recommended!!"

  • Years and years of fun and memories!

"I can't begin to count the number of times we have been privileged to have stayed in your mountain retreat over the past years! But, what I can tell you is that every time we go, we are so excited to be going back!! Girls' weekends, Christmas celebration, New Year's, birthdays, and just "lazy" visits have been cause for past trips. We busy ourselves while we are there with shopping, snow tubing, etc.; however, it seems that the time spent in your house is the times we enjoy the most....whether it be sitting fireside while the fire roars in the fireplace, or sitting outside on the deck listening to music while enjoying dinner we've cooked on the grill, or hanging out downstairs in the rec room. The furnishings are amazing -- everything from the heated mattress pads to the kitchen dishes -- nothing in this house says "rental" -- it all says "upscale home"!! My "kids" have grown up on visits to Weeks End, both having had at least one birthday trip for some snow fun on the ski slopes. And, although they are grown now, they still LOVE to be included in trips back to the "mountain house". It's especially fun to see them begin to include their own friends on our trips on occasion. We are looking forward to a stay at some point over the summer! Thanks for sharing your home with me over the years!"

  • Thoroughly enjoyable

"This is a great location to spend a vacation and agree with everything the prior reviews stated except the coffee pot (may be a new one) quickly brewed coffee. We under-utilized a lot of the space, but what we did use was wonderful! The den with fireplace is so-o-o cozy for downtime. All of us watched Dirty Dancing and two other movies in the den and utilized the TV in the main area for news. Our two teens LOVED the basement! They enjoyed the seclusion, ability to spread out and laundry room doubling as a private dressing area. With their ipads and iphones in use, they wanted me to remove the TV from the end table. The walking exercise circuit on the property was a fun group activity every morning, and the massage therapists at the Wellness Center are excellent. Paddle boarding was easy to do and we found a sandy, secluded beach area to take a break before we returned. The life size checkerboard was a favorite, too. We enjoyed climbing the stairs at Chimney Rock and walking to the beautiful falls at the end of Hickory Nut trail. The pizza and wings at the on-site Legends restaurant are very good. We found lots of little coffee shops in Chimney Rock as well as a hidden gem—Tia B’s Mexican restaurant (closed Wednesdays). The airport and Asheville are only an hour away. Part of our family drove from MI and the Garmin GPS took us the wrong way in the NC mountains a few times which was very frustrating and once we got our bearings, we ended up taking 74/240 to Asheville downtown (5 times) and 74/64/26 to and from the airport (2 times). They are maybe not the fastest routes, but definitely the easiest—with beautiful scenery. Fairlake provided a great base for a memorable vacation."

  • What a wonderful vacation!

"What a wonderful vacation! We stayed here for two weeks in July and had an amazing time. The condo was immaculate and spacious. The view off the back deck is incredible, and we spent most of our time out there enjoying the fresh air. The owners are very friendly and provide lots of helpful information about the local area. There is a great outlook at the top where you can see 360 degrees at all of the surrounding mountains. The restaurants and grocery stores are conveniently close. We ventured out twice to the Profile Trail which is located on the side of Grandfather Mountain closest to the condo. It starts as an easy hike by a stream (my four-year-old niece loved it), and you continue onward and upward if you want a longer and challenging hike. This was a memorable trip and a refreshing reprieve from the summer heat back home. We have already recommended this getaway to friends and we hope to return soon."
