"The house and surroundings were even more beautiful and spacious than the pictures. There was a view from every window of the ocean or the sound. We enjoyed kayaking in the sound- it was perfect for beginners since the water is very shallow and clear. We used the crab cage to catch dinner one night. A handicapped-accessible beach entrance, complete with warm showers, was a short walk up the road and very family-friendly. Beach toys and boogies boards made it fun to play and surf the waves. The ocean was very warm even though it was early June. The house was very clean, pretty and well-organized, and everything was comfortably set up for a large family stay. A writer's roost at the top of the house with desk, chair and windows was an added bonus. Being right next to the sound means you should bring bug spray for mosquitoes in the evening. We enjoyed taking the free car ferry to Ocracoke and exploring Hatteras shops as well. Avoid the small grocery stores - stick to the Food Lion for a much better price and selection. A visit to the Orange Blossom is a must- try the "Apple Ugly", their famous fresh baked apple fritters the size of your head. The Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum was also a fun place to explore. This was one of the most well-maintained and well-thought out vacation houses we've ever rented."

"We were looking for a vacation rental that would accommodate a boat and we were lucky enough to find The Ice House! The house is very comfortable and the location is great! We were able to launch the boat and store the trailer at a marina just around the corner. It was great having the boat right in the back yard! A great beach access is just a quick ride down the road making it the perfect location for the surfers in our group. My husband and his friend caught 2 croaker off the dock in the backyard the first morning! They were quickly cleaned and served for breakfast! What a great way to start the vacation! The week included off shore fishing, flounder gigging at night, crabbing off the dock, and clamming in the sound. You really can't ask for more! The owner is extremely nice and very helpful. Sharing his knowledge of the local waterway was beyond helpful! The location does come with a "price". The house is in an unusual location, not exactly a neighborhood. We loved that we were pretty much by ourselves. Be prepared to unplug. TV and internet access are not the best, but that is part of being on the island. Once we got used to it, life is much better without TV and computer! The cargo lift is another one of the best things about this house. Moving in and moving out was SO MUCH EASIER! The second sink in the kitchen turned out to be something else we all liked a lot. The view from the top of the house is spectacular! Sunsets are something to be celebrated and you couldn't ask for a better place for that! My whole family loved the set up of the deck too. All in all, this is a great vacation home! You won't go wrong if you choose The Ice House for your vacation rental!"

"We had a wonderful time at Turning Point. The view was amazing, more than I had expected. Irene was a fantastic host. She called to ask us about the bed, because she had some complaints that it made a noise. It did, but nothing you couldn't deal with. We slept perfectly fine. We enjoyed crabbing and fishing off the dock. Our pup Riley seemed to enjoy it the most. She loved sitting in front of the glass doors or on the deck as we enjoyed our morning coffee. It is a far drive from most tourist type things, but is well worth it. You are on a part of the island that is so narrow, that you can see the sound on one side and the ocean on the other. The only suggestion I would make is to bring bug spray. The mosquitos are relentless! We even left the citronella candles we bought for the next guests. Other than that, we had a fantastic time. I have been to the OBX many times and stayed a few places. From here on out, it will be at Turning Point! We look forward to coming again next year if we can."

"To celebrate our 50th anniversary, we brought our two adult children, their spouses, and two young grandchildren to the Outer Banks. When we checked into Island Time, we found a huge "Happy Anniversary" cake complete with beach furniture, in the fridge. (Thanks again, Jayne!) The weather cooperated beautifully, and we had a lovely week in the peaceful end of the island. If you're looking for crowds and wall-to-wall stores and restaurants, this is not the place to go. The house was roomy enough for ten (kids and parents in one room with double/twin bunks), with the game room and deck space. We spotted dear and a family of three furry critters (groundhogs?) in the back yard around the pond, and many birds. Frisco Beach and the Cape Hatteras Beach near the lighthouse were clean, safe for the children, and not overly crowded. The fishermen in the family enjoyed a day of fishing in the sound on a charter with Ken Kelsey, and brought home dinner. Another day we went clamming with Tami Gray, and there was another dinner. Climbed the lighthouse of course, and visited the Wright Memorial and Roanoke. Our daughter is somewhat disabled, so we were concerned about that. However, there were only four steps to the front porch (compared to a lot of places on the island which had many steps), and since they used the downstairs bedroom, it worked fine with her walker. The week went by much too fast, like all vacations seem to do."
