  • Perfect beach house in the OBX!!

"This was our first trip to the OBX and it was perfect! It all began with Lisa, the owner of the home who was really helpful in answering any questions I had about the place and area. There were 9 of us staying there all in our mid-late 30's. The house was perfect and the layout was great. We especially enjoyed the openness of the family room and the kitchen where we spent a large amount of time cooking together and grilling. The kitchen really had nearly everything you would need. The beach was such a short walk that it was easy to spend a few hours there, come back to lounge by the pool and then go back to the beach if you wanted to. The beach was great because it wasn't crowded and the waves were plentiful. Very relaxing! We did a large amount of our grocery shopping when we arrived and did not eat out a lot, so can't comment too much on the places to eat nearby. We did try top dog cafe which was great (get the fish tacos!!), and also checked out a new place about 1/2 mile walk down called Waterman's Bar and Grill which has live bands on some nights. It was pretty cool and we would definitely go back. We worked with shore details to get some towels, linens for the beds and beach chairs. They were great to work with and the rental costs for the linens were very really reasonable. They were also there if we had any issues and responded quickly. We had to call them when we went to grill as the propane tank was empty and quickly had it replaced for us and apologized for any inconvenience. Super sweet people. We had such a great time that we are planning on staying there again and have already reserved our week for next year!"

  • Dodged Hurricane Arthur

"Great location and owners where great, even through the Hurricane! We had booked the house for 2 weeks, arrived on Sunday June 29th and home was very clean and all the cooking plates you would need, especially since we were there for an extended period. Along came Arthur and mandatory evacuation on Thursday July 3rd, so we got lucky and found an Hotel in Plymouth. The owners called the next day and said they had ridden the storm out with 96 mph winds, their house which in near our rental, neither had lost power or sustained any damage, for us to come back as soon as we were able to get back onto Hatteras Island. We got back on island Sat night, July 5th, and owners had begun to clean out sound water from area including under the house. They were extremely accommodating and apologetic we had to leave and come back! Bottom line, you cannot go wrong with renting this house and from the owners, they are great! The location is about a 5 minute walk to beach and a beach chairs, bogie boards and a cart is provided. The screen porch and crows nest are awesome! Just ask the owners for best places to eat or buy local seafood! Couldn't ask for better treatment from property owners to Dare County officials and NC DOT who rocked to get the Hatteras Island back open so quickly after a Hurricane Cat 2 passing through. We will be back!"

  • True Beach House ~ Comfy Interior ~ Lush Lot ~ Huge Pool ~ Perfect Week :D

"Listing description accurate - Oceanfront on a beautiful dune, short path to the beach, gorgeous views from decks and Cathedral windows. Photos reflect home's appearance and amenities - pool is huge by OBX standards, deck landscaped with gorgeous dark green blooming shrubs and bushes, very zen. Lot has more trees and greenery than any we've seen, beautiful. Robert the Caretaker did an exceptional job, the house was spic n span. We arrived early, and he made us feel welcome, let us know when the house would be ready. Great communication throughout our stay :) George the Owner answered all of our questions - we were at complete ease that any concerns would be addressed, though we had none during our entire week. I would enthusiastically recommend this property, though the layout might be slightly more challenging for those with toddlers or elderly guests. Its an older layout, which was perfect for our clan of 20 to 50 yr olds and an old beach doggy. For activities, we bring our own beach volleyball net, (swimmers, volleyball and soccer players in our group) for hours of great exercise and fun. We even played pool volleyball in the huge pool, beautifully lit at night. Soccer juggling and frisbee on the beach. Boogie boarding whenever possible. Sand sculpture kept everyone smiling. Shopping @ our favorite Surf Shops for hoodies, bikinis and boardshorts @ DVO outfitters (3 min drive South) or REAL Watersports (1 min drive South) or Avon Surf Shop (20 min drive). We try to buy from local small businesses - Austin's Seafood (super-fresh daily catch - our seared tuna on the grill deserved Michelin stars :) Waves Grocery and Market is very cool and open til' midnight! We got to see a live Reggae Band at the super cool REAL music venue behind their store. - fantastic for all ages, and just a superb location for the sunset. We love Hatteras Island because of its still a Beach Town. George's Home reflects this in a beautifully laid back, but well-appointed way. Its architecture and driftwood tones respect and complement the environment it is built upon (as opposed to some of the gaudy behemoths plunked down on oceanfront lots). Its a well-loved, lived-in home, full of personal touches, a family curated art selection (loved the Hatteras Needlepoint series!), family photos - i love that you can tell Surfers Live Here! 16 years of OBX house rentals, and we give this House, its Caretaker and Owner an enthusiastic A+"

Waves Travel Tips

Waves Beach House Rentals: Superior Hatteras Island Living

One of America's top vacation hot spots has long been the Outer Banks of North Carolina. These barrier islands lie between the Atlantic Ocean and North Carolina and are home to historical sites, national landmarks, and some of the most beautiful beaches in the U.S. Hatteras Island is a renowned Outer Banks destination. While visiting, consider Waves beach house rentals to meet lodging needs in an outstanding way. With many rentals to choose from, ranging from cozy apartments to luxury homes, Waves beach house rentals offer sleeping quarters for couples and large groups. Some Waves homes offer private beaches and open, spacious floor plans. Many are within walking distance to the beach and have more room than a hotel.

Get Outside and Enjoy Nature's Splendor

To enjoy the brilliant skies and turquoise water of Hatteras Island, there is no better place than Cape Hatteras National Seashore, which lies only minutes from Waves homes. The ever-shifting islands are subject to wind and water, which change the islands over time. Lounge away an afternoon on the sandy beaches with a good book or explore the marshlands and maritime woods on an afternoon hike. At Camp Hatteras, exciting activities like horseback riding, kayaking, kite-surfing, and jet skiing are surefire ways to bring families together.

Cape Hatteras Lighthouse: A National Landmark

A visit to Hatteras Island wouldn't be complete without stopping by Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, the most recognized lighthouse in the country. The nation's tallest beacon shines over 20 miles out to sea, warning sailors and seamen of the Diamond Shoals, sandbars that have claimed numerous lives and seafaring crafts throughout history. After learning the area's history at the visitor's center, climb 268 steps for spectacular, panoramic views from the top of this national landmark. A relaxing evening and restful sleep are waiting at Outer Banks vacation rentals.
