"We typically rent homes on Oak Island, and this was our first Holden Beach rental. My wife, her three sisters, my son, and I all loved it, and would readily rent it again. This is one of the best values we have found.
Although not ocean front, public access to the beach is only a short walk or bike ride away (bike racks are provided at the public access). We actually didn't go to the beach as much as we thought we would, but only because of the beautiful, peaceful views from both the front and back decks. During the day one deck is in the sun while the other is in the shade, so you can work on your tan or relax in the shade, whichever you prefer. During our time there a gentle breeze was blowing over both decks.
The kitchen is well-equipped and able to accomodate multiple cooks simultaneously. Counter space is abundant for both prepping and serving, and cabinet space is plentiful. There are chairs at the bar and a large dining table is also provided.
The master suite is spacious and comfortable, and has direct access to the back deck (canal side). The other rooms on the lower floor have ample space and direct access to a shared bathroom.
The loft is convenient and comfortable, and has direct access to the front upper deck (including the tanning deck). It offers little privacy and there is no upstairs bathroom, but it is still very comfortable and served our purposes well.
The floating dock offers convenient access to the canal. We took full advantage by taking several kayak trips out to the waterway. We fished from both the dock and from the kayak, but unfortunately with little success. Based on several conversations at the tackle shop, the poor fishing appeared to widespread, and caused by heavy rainfall from the tropical storm that hit a few days prior to our stay. Hopefully your luck will be better!
The owner, Melissa, is very responsive, friendly, and helpful. She is very quick to respond to emails, and is also receptive to texts and phone calls.
Holden Beach is a very quiet and peaceful community. If you're planning wild beach parties, this is neither the house nor the beach for you. But if you want a peaceful beach retreat with plenty of fun, fishing, and family activities available, look no further than "Footprints on the Marsh.""
