"This was, I believe, the 7th year out of the last 8 that my family stayed at John's Crab Shack at Oak Island. We love it! A relaxing and dog friendly family home at an affordable price. The walk to the beach was easy and brief, and we made full use of amenities like the beach wagon, kayak and bicycles. One of the best aspects is the kitchen - we eat almost all meals in when we are on vacation, and we enjoy cooking. The Crab Shack kitchen is equipped better than any other beach house we have stayed in, with a reasonable selection of pots, pans, utensils and knives for cooking and sufficient dishes to serve family meals."

"Lovely beach house! Everything was as described. We were traveling with my daughter and her family (including a 3 1/2 year old), and we took advantage of the many decks/porches to both enjoy the views (saw dolphins one morning!) and not be on top of each other all the time. The owner responds quickly to inquiries, and was very helpful. Topsail Island is uncrowded and laid-back; we especially enjoyed the beach, kayaking in Stump Sound, getting fresh seafood to cook and take home from Surf City Crab, the Corner Sweet Bake Shop (peach cronuts, wow), the Karen Beasley Turtle Hospital, the Tuesday Farmers Market (with crafts), Shipwreck Mini-Golf and the educational program run by the environmental aquarium, which had children and adults seining in the surf with a naturalist who explained the "treasures" we found. . . ."

"We just came back from our first stay at Coastal Karma and couldn't have been more pleased! The house is almost right on the channel with an excellent view. It's a great place to watch the sun set in the evenings and the boats in the morning as you're eating breakfast!
The house was very well kept and clean. The decor was so nice that it really made you feel relaxed. We didn't need the apartment so I cannot speak for it. The main part of the house had three bedrooms. All of them were very nice. The bed in the master bedroom was super comfy! We have a four year old so we used the back bedroom so we could watch television in the evenings, or talk without disrupting her. I loved that everything was on one level so I could keep an eye on her and hear her at all times.
The house had everything you pretty much would need. You only need to bring bath and beach towels. There was toilet paper, paper towels, laundry detergent, dish-washing detergent, liquid dish soap, liquid hand soap, a basket of toiletries in case you forgot something, lots of cookware, dishes, glassware, toaster, coffee maker, etc. We only had to buy our groceries, which we purchased at Harris Teeter. It's about a 5 minute drive.
The beach was a short walk from the house. You do have to cross a street to get to the public beach access. The street can get a little busy in the afternoons but we never had an issue. We rented a wagon to cart the beach stuff and our daughter to and from the beach. We rented from Seaside Linens. It was $53 for the week and worth every penny, if you have small children. They dropped off and picked up the wagon. We even made the reservation online once we got there. Couldn't have been easier!
The house has a beach umbrella and chairs that we used. I think there was about 4-5 beach chairs so don't worry about bringing your own unless you want to.
We ate at South Beach Grill (right beside Wings). The food was great! I had the grouper special and it was heavenly! Great service too!
Everyone we met around the house was so friendly. We really enjoyed our stay and would return again! Wendy, the owner, was great. She provided us with recommendations on grocery stores, restaurants, etc. She was very easy to work with. You can really tell that she and her family care take great pride in this house. You can tell by how well it's maintained and you can see her personal touch in the decor. (Wendy, thank you for sharing your lovely home with us!)"

"Nice location with great view. Perfect size for our family with 3 teens who like their own space. We had room to spare. Quick access to the beach was wonderful. The owners were very responsive to our questions and a pleasure to work with."
