  • Just as nice the second time around!

"We love BHI! My wife and I were married there 10+ years ago so it's always special to return. We have stayed in 12-15 homes on BHI and set foot in a dozen more. A Bird House is the only home we have chosen to rent a second time. Marcella is so pleasant and easy to work with. She is very prompt and detailed in her responses, and makes it feel as if you are using a friend's home for the weekend. The home is quite comfortable, clean, and well furnished. There's plenty of room for a large group or family. Bikes, games, movies, chairs and umbrellas for the beach, and anything else you could want for your island getaway are furnished. We love that the home is secluded on a beautifully wooded lot. Yet, it is so convenient to the beach, harbor, and market. A perfect blend! One last thing....take the blue BMW golf cart. It will get you around the island quickly."

  • Perfect for a long weekend!

"My husband and I stayed in OKI for the Oak Island Lighthouse Run and didn't want to be too far off in a hotel. This was absolutely the perfect place! It was just the right size, it had everything we needed (including coffee and coffee creamer, which I love), and not to mention an incredible view of the Intracoastal Waterway. It is a well-maintained and super cute place to stay! The owners are incredibly nice, helpful, and accommodating. Not only will we recommend it to our loved ones but we'll definitely book again when the time is right!"

  • Fabulous Family Reunion Location

"We held our annual family reunion at this wonderful property on Ocean Isle. The home and location added so much to our experience. This house has plenty of room, a great pool and such a beautiful view of the ocean. We could sit on the porch at night with a great ocean breeze. We enjoyed every minute. Just a short walk across the street to the beach so no need to pack up for the whole day. The location is ideal. Even the food store is not far! All the family wants to return again. It was a perfect spot for all ages!"

  • ok

"We thought the location was great. The living room area was a little small for the no. of people. Beach parking pass was GREAT. It made it a lot easier. Would stay there again."

Wrightsville Beach Travel Tips

Nestled into North Carolina's New Hanover County is the lovely little town of Wrightsville Beach, boasting 4 miles of sandy island.

Luckily, Wrightsville Beach is the state's the most accessible and filled with a variety of outdoor activities to enjoy. With such an amazing climate and gorgeous natural views, you'll want to spend as much time as you can soaking up the sun's rays. It's a great spot for for endless family fun, especially if you love water sports like kayaking, kite-boarding and surfing. In between the adventures and exploring, take some time to relax as you gaze out across the shimmering waters or cast a line and hope for a bite.

Wrightsville Beach provides all the charm and welcoming atmosphere of a small town, but still offers tons of city-style cultural experiences. There's a lovely mix of history and modernity here that will leave you with happy memories of your North Carolina getaway.

Things to Do in Wrightsville Beach

- Wrightsville Beach Museum of History: Step back in time as you cross the threshold of the Wrightsville Beach Museum of History and experience the progression of the town through the years. The museum is housed in a turn-of-the-century Myers Cottage. Inside you'll find a cool scale model of Wrightsville Beach circa 1910 as well as exhibits depicting the early days of the town, hurricane history and how the interaction between the people of Wrightsville Beach and nature shaped the 100 years of history here. See exhibits such as "The History of the Bathing Suit," which is a collection of vintage advertisements, and the "Wish You Were Here!" postcard exhibit. The museum was designed to display how a typical life was on the beach in this community, and the best part is that admission to the Wrightsville Beach Museum of History is free.

- Johnnie Mercer's Pier: If you enjoy a morning or afternoon of fishing, then you should definitely spend some at Johnnie Mercer's Pier, which is one of the best fishing spots around. It extends more than 1,200 feet into the Atlantic Ocean, so there's plenty of space for fishermen. The pier was named after John "Johnnie" Mercer, an American lyricist, songwriter and singer from the mid-1930s through the mid-1950s. Mercer wrote more than 1,500 songs and received several awards. he was also a co-founder of Capitol Records. Now you can head to his pier with your tackle box, grab your favorite lure and hope for a bite or two.

- Carolina School of Surf: If you've wanted to learn how to hang 10 and catch a wave, book a lesson at the Carolina School of Surf at Wrightsville Beach. They specialize in surf camps and private lessons, which are great for beginners. All instructors are first aid and CPR certified. You'll learn the basics and then you can impress your travel companions with your newfound skills on the water.

This home-grown establishment is beloved by its loyal customers who enjoy dining both inside as well as on the front deck and lawn. It's a great place to relax and enjoy each other's company as much as the food. Try the omelets, wraps or waffles to start the day off right.
