"This house was more then it was pictured. We had a family total of 22... And there was more than enough room for every one. This was the best relaxing weekend ever. We did not leave the house the entire weekend. Todd and Becky had "everything" in this home u could think of. This home is perfect for large groups. We took a load of pics and played some many game. Also the radio in the home was great. Speakers were threw out the house with its on controller on each floor and each room. I would love to visit on every family vacay???"

  • Scottsdale, Arizona

"We hit the jackpot! We live in Arizona and came for 5 weeks so we could be close to the grandkids in Charlotte. The spacious downstairs bedroom with 2 beds was perfect for the weekends with our family and our hosts were kind enough to allow us to rent the downstairs on an ‘as needed’ basis. The house is clean, comfortable and well equipped with everything we needed....even a big screen TV with plenty of channels. Didn’t have to ask for a thing because it was all there already. The grandkids had a blast swimming off the dock, kayaking, paddle boating, row boating, and fishing. There is a hot spot off the dock for small fish that the grandkids kept grandpa busy with. He couldn’t bait the hooks fast enough. Dock provides nice shade and benches for the adults to sit to watch the kids or the beautiful sunsets in the evening. There is a grill, patio and completely equipped kitchen right down by the dock that we also had access to for a cookout after a full day of fun. We were lucky to be there for Jim’s smoked pork that he shared in abundance....it was DELICIOUS! The chicken even provided the kids with a couple of fresh eggs. Wonderful hosts, safe, quiet, well equipped, comfortable, accommodations. This is definitely a 5 star find!"

  • Great location on lake!

"You will be surprised and pleased when you see the time and care that has been taken to create this lovely Lake Norman getaway! It is the upstairs apartment of a beautiful lake-front home yet there is plenty of privacy. The property is waterfront and the sunsets were gorgeous. The apartment is centrally located very close to any store or restaurant you might want. The pictures are very accurate and you can tell the owner has taken great care to try to anticipate your needs. The only downside was there wasn't a full kitchen (for obvious building code issues) and I didn't want to cook on a hot plate. Who wants to cook anyway when you are on vacation. We have stayed in several rentals on Lake Norman and I would highly recommend this property!"

Heartland Travel Tips

North Carolina Heartland Vacation Rentals Offer Diversity

The heart of North Carolina is neither mountainous nor along the shores of the Atlantic. However, for guests of North Carolina Heartland vacation rentals, there are many experiences just waiting for them. Whether you are in one of the cities such as Charlotte, Raleigh or Greensboro or the smaller communities of Lake Norman, Mount Airy or Southern Pines, you will find the perfect accommodations. The available vacation rentals feature luxury homes, cozy lakeside cabins or ultra modern condos. The main things you will find in all of these great listings at VRBO are comfort and amenities that you just cannot duplicate in a five-star hotel. You will enjoy a spacious living area, a fully equipped kitchen for sumptuous dining, and plush mattresses for a great night’s sleep.

A Huge Array of Things to do From North Carolina Heartland Lodging

If you choose to stay in a Charlotte vacation rental, you can visit Carowinds amusement park which is about 10 miles from the heart of the city. They offer thrilling rides, a pretty setting and plenty of food. NASCAR fans can go to the races at Lowes Speedway or guests of VRBO vacation rentals can play a round of golf at Southern Pines’ Pinehurst Golf Course. You can relax around the house with views of magnolia trees and North Carolina wildlife while enjoying an after-golfing cocktail on your private deck.

The lake area of North Carolina’s heartland offers many different types of watersports. Your North Carolina lodging might be a boater’s paradise with a boat slip for your own boat. Your fully furnished condo or lake house will present you with an opportunity to have breakfast on your patio or entertain with a small dinner party. Many of the lake houses have their own BBQ grills so you can cook your fresh fish that you caught in the afternoon. You will also find that some of the North Carolina Heartland homes offer swimming pools in the community in which they are located as well as fitness rooms, walking paths or tennis courts.

Shopping and Dining by North Carolina Heartland Lake Houses

There will be many places to dine when you stay in North Carolina vacation rentals. If you choose to stay in the larger cities, you can find five-star dining establishments. The areas around Southern Pines, although smaller in population, will also offer gourmet delights from many of the restaurants. The lake areas will have small mom-and-pop diners, restaurants and bistros. The food will always be fresh and you might even have the chance to delight in fresh seafood and fish from the Outer Banks area. It is only a few hours’ drive from the coastal areas of North Carolina so these delicacies are not out of the question. One thing you should not miss when you are in the state is southern BBQ. Southern BBQ is pulled pork in a vinegar-type sauce served with hush puppies, little new potatoes and coleslaw, and then you wash it down with sweet tea. Ask your vacation rental host where you can find the best BBQ in their area and savor the flavor.

Shopping will span the big malls that are abundant in the cities with stores like Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom and other department and designer boutiques. If you wish to find North Carolina crafts, look to the lake areas and smaller towns. Mount Airy was the inspiration for The Andy Griffith Show so a vacation in Mount Airy will be like coming home to Mayberry. A log cabin with views of the Blue Ridge Mountains could be yours when you stay and shop in Mount Airy.

Getting to Your North Carolina Heartland Homes

The city of Charlotte is the hub of US Airways and there are many flights within the state of North Carolina that can get you to your vacation rental. You can fly into Raleigh or Greensboro as well and rent a car to get you to your delightful lodging. Interstate 40 is the main road through the state and from there, you can take smaller roads to reach your North Carolina heartland home or cabin in the woods. A car is recommended so that you can take advantage of everything the heartland area has to offer.
