"This is a wonderfully relaxing vacation spot. The house sits on a slight rise looking straight down a huge expanse of Badin Lake. It's an easy walk down the stone path to the dock, which has a covered deck with a table, upright and reclining chairs, and plenty of space to move around. The view is spectacular, both from the house and from the dock! At the house, comfortable seating and umbrellas are provided on both the main-level deck and the ground-level patio.
The house is spacious, immaculate, and bright and sunny with lots of huge windows. Furnishings are upscale and well appointed, and the closets are huge! Beds are comfortable, and bathrooms are nicely appointed and updated. The kitchen is quite large with lots of counter space, which allows several people to work in the kitchen at the same time. Dishes, silverware, and glassware are in adequate supply, the refrigerator is roomy, and the pantry just off the kitchen provides convenient storage for foods, snacks, and sodas. Additional cutting boards are needed (an easy fix), and updated cookware with more lids that fit would have been helpful. The cooktop, however, didn't seem to match the superb quality of other things in the house. With uneven/sloped burners, it was a challenge to cook foods evenly in skillets.
The dining room table was huge and all 11 of us ate dinner together comfortably, unlike many houses that sleep 12+ but can only seat 6-8. While convenient, the high chair provided was pretty old and difficult to use.
An issue that concerned us was the deck and dock railings. Both need to be reinforced. We felt unsafe leaning on them. The two gates on the main deck also need work. One could be closed ok, but the second was completely off its hinges and had to be bungee corded to make the deck safe for the 19 month old.
Fishing off the dock was great fun, and at least four different kinds of fish were caught. Off property, we enjoyed a day at Carowinds, the amusement park near Charlotte and home to the new roller coaster called the Fury 325. It's steepest hill is 325' high, it travels at 95 mph, and the ride is awesome!
The property description on the website is accurate, but the website pictures do not do justice to this lovely home. The homeowner couldn’t have been more accommodating in helping us plan our trip and in answering our questions. We highly recommend this lovely home for anyone wanting a quiet, relaxing vacation on a scenic lake in North Carolina."
