  • Winter Week at Pura Vida!

"We had a great week here in the summer of 2011. Great house in a great location. When we wanted to host a family gathering in late December of this year, we were concerned that there might not be enough to do around Lake Gaston, since it's primarily a warm-weather destination. Well, we had a great week. This house is spread out on three gorgeous floors, with 5 bedrooms (their listing apparently doesn't count the bunk bed room....with four beds....as a bedroom) and a full bath on each floor (plus a half bath on the main floor). Plenty of room for private time, great areas for group fun. We spent one day in Raleigh (about 1 1/4 hours south), which we all enjoyed. (Be sure to see the free state historical museum and free science museum (both downtown), plus a nice walk around the downtown area. We did some walks in the immediate vicinity of Pura Vida. We spent a lot of time playing video games (we brought our own console and games), card and board games, and just enjoying each others' company. The beautiful two-story living room has a gas fireplace that was very easy to use. We built a couple campfires in the fire pit down near the water's edge. (They had plenty of firewood there for their guests.) This house sits on a wonderful lot with a great view of the main lake. They have large windows and decks that overlook the lake, making for a beautiful, serene view. We also made a second one-hour trip to see a movie on the north side of Raleigh. All in all, a surprisingly fun way to spend a winter week in a truly terrific house. The furnishings in this house are amazing. We'll be back for a third visit."

  • A place in heaven!

"We stopped at whippoorwill cabin on our way to the beach. We could not have been more happy. Kelly was so helpful and worked great with our schedule. Upon arriving to the cabin we were so delighted. The cabin offers such updated amenities with the rustic feel you want in a cabin! The first thing when walking in it smelled great, it was clean, inviting and homey! It has everything you need. All linens are provided. The kitchen was amazing, the bed was comfortable. The huge bath tub was so nice. That's just the inside. We could of sat on the front porch for days just rocking in the rocking chairs and drinking tea! My daughter who is 6 and loves to catch bugs was in heaven, she chased grass hoppers for hours. We enjoyed fishing and looking for bullfrogs! We went for a walk in the woods and picked wild blackberries! It is so close to mt airy. We visited the cute town, went to hanging rock and pilot mountain. It's the perfect cabin, in the perfect location! This will be our new stopping point from Ohio down to the beach every year! The only thing missing is a hammock on the porch for an afternoon nap in paradise!"

  • Golf Trip

"The McDonald house was a perfect setup for an 8-man golf trip. Conveniently located to all the nearby golf and restaurants, it was also clean and spacious with plenty of room. Jacqui and Steve were available as needed and very responsive. I'd highly recommend this property for a group making a golf trip to the Pinehurst area."

  • April 2014

"Marty the owner was awesome to work with. Loved the feel of the log home. Decorated well. Views from deck awesome. Lighting in house was quite dim. Could not get cable to work in basement. I would suggest having a notebook on how things operated. I am sure the area would be better to visit in summer months, but it was very peaceful. It was much better than staying in a hotel. Would totally recommend this property to everyone!"
