  • Lake Gaston Waterfront Private Cove

"First of all the owners were very helpful in every way. This was our first trip out to Lake Gaston and I had a lot of questions. If I called or wrote to them, they were quick to reply with answers and not once sounded like they were bothered by me. The house was nice and cleaned. I did like the master bedroom being on the first floor as well. When we arrived, they even had a binder with all the local restaurants, rental shops, and other information. Unfortunately for us something was going on this weekend (A wedding I think) and we could not rent kayaks because the rental shops were closed. Lesson learned, bring your own kayaks. The basement where the Ping-Pong/foosball tables were had a damp smell, but nothing over powering to stop the guys from playing. The kitchen was stocked with everything you would need to cook and eat. The blinder was the item mainly used and it worked like a charm. We enjoyed our stay and we would stay again. Next time maybe a week instead of a weekend."

  • Wonderful Week at the Lake

"This property provided an excellent resting spot for a relaxing week at Lake Gaston. The description was accurate but did not do the property justice. The views are amazing! The home was clean and well maintained. Anne Marie was responsive and helpful in the weeks before our trip to answer all questions and give us all the information we needed prior to arrival. Perfect getaway for those that love the water and all that implies! The stairs back and forth to the boat dock might prove difficult for small children, elderly visitors, or those with disabilities. Lack of Wi-Fi might prove difficult for teenagers and some adults!"

  • Lake Gaston Vacation

"We rented the house for a week in September. The location and the property are just beautiful, right on the lake, at one of the widest parts, so the view is very expansive. A dock is at the lake edge, where you can tie up a boat, or swim. Next to that is a small sandy beach area. Built above the dock area is a large deck. Being right on the water, it will be buggy in the evening, so bring your bug repellent. The property is steep, and the house sits at the top, which provides great lake views. You get up to the house from the lakeside via a long, winding set of steps that have low risers. It’s a long pleasant walk, not strenuous, and the distance creates two very distinct recreation areas. A deck runs the full width of the rear of the house. Open the sliding glass door, and you are in the family room/den. The house is very up-to-date, nicely decorated, well maintained, and very comfortable. It was just the two of us, so we could not give an opinion on how the accommodations would be with a much larger group, other than to say that the house is exactly as pictured and described. The front of the house faces the road, and is set back quite a distance, so it’s very private all around. The community pool/playground/park is a short walk down the road. It closed after Labor Day, but we walked there a few times – it would be a nice plus for kids. There are only two mediocre restaurants nearby, plus a pizza place. We didn’t care to drive further in search of better restaurants, so we cooked at the house more. I made two observations to the owner. One, my wife felt that the cookware was kind of an odd assortment of pieces, and on several the Teflon was wearing off. You might consider bringing cookware that you think you would really need. Second, while the TV is nice, the system is a little outdated, with an old very basic DVD player, and no DVR service. I suggested to the owner that replacing the DVD player, and adding DVR service, would make big improvements to the entertainment equipment. One other suggestion – some prior guests recommended renting a pontoon boat, which we did for a day and had a great time. They mentioned renting from Morningstar Marina, which is across the lake. I would recommend driving a little further, and renting from Stonehouse Timber Lodge. The cost is much less ($220 vs. $289), they are open an hour longer, and the staff there are like a family, very friendly and helpful. We would certainly highly recommend the rental of this property."
