"As a grandmother of seven grandchildren - 6 of them 4 years old and under, I was very apprehensive about going anywhere near any water for a vacation this year. Historically we would have gone to an ocean beach. I let my daughters know how nervous I was about all those little people being around the ocean and one of them suggested a lake house. I have never been to a lake house before. What an enjoyable, relaxing vacation! The little people could play in the water while the adults relaxed on their chairs and very little hands-on was required. The grassy area from the house to the lakefront was so much nicer than all the sand! We played all kinds of games there. There were small fish and a turtle came by one day for entertainment. I caught four fish IN A CHILD'S NET! We played duck-duck goose, croquet, play-doh, magnatiles, scrabble and made homemade ice cream. We rented a pontoon boat one day. We used the kayaks daily and the paddleboat. In addition, the Lake Gaston bird farm with about 100 species of birds and other farm animals is within walking distance. The kids loved it. Farmer Dick was really good with the little ones. The Ward's home was equipped with everything we needed to cook. The setup was great and handled my two daughters' families and I quite nicely. Underneath my bedroom suite is an outdoor "den" with a TV that we never even turned on. We spent most of our time there. The place was incredible. There seriously was nothing that we said, "I wish I would have brought, xxx." Eloise and Rick answered all our questions prior to arrival - they have sliced off a little piece of heaven. We will be back! I have already referred this place and provided contact information for some folks who are excited to check it out!"

A Week in Paradise (Our Summer Vacation at the Blue Heron Lodge)
"Our family, ranging in ages from 3-months to 70-years, enjoyed a most relaxing week at the Blue Heron Lodge. The house is amazing. Because our family enjoys great food, the kitchen was most important to us - and it served us well. The multiple decks surrounding the house provided a variety of areas to relax, have conversations, and enjoy the sun. Lizard Creek was nearly a private lake for most of the week - we rarely saw other boats in the waters surrounding the lodge until after noon on Friday. Access to boat lifts for both our boat and jet ski was a welcome bonus. The available canoe, life jackets, and fishing gear were much appreciated. Though we spent the majority of our time in Lizard Creek, Lake Gaston provides unlimited opportuities for boating, site seeing, fishing and other water related activities. We enjoyed easy access to fuel for our boats, a full service marina, grocery stores and restaurants. The Pointe Cafe had both great food and live entertainment. Our family is already in the planning stages for our next visit to the lodge in the summer of 2015. Thank-you to the Gray Family for providing us with the opportunity to enjoy their home for our Summer Vacation."

Perfect place in walkable neighborhood close to everything
"Our family stayed here for three nights and it was perfect. The hosts left out the most perfect basket of goodies (english muffins, wine, cookies, bananas, etc) for us that our kids started eating as soon as we arrived from the airport. The apartment was cute, comfortable, clean, safe, full of character and very well appointed. The host was very quick to respond to my texted questions. Highly recommended as a place to stay for anyone visiting Charlotte!"

"We had an excellent time at Badin Lake. The house was clean, comfortable, and is located in a beautiful spot. The owners were very helpful. The dock was a great place to spend some time sunning, watching the birds and sunsets. There is much to see and do in the surrounding Uhwarrie forest. We will return. Highly recommended especially if you are not familiar with this unique part of North Carolina."
