  • great experience

"We had a great stay at the cabin. It was the perfect size for us (two adults) and the cabin is very comfortable. The farm is lovely and it was fun to see the animals and hear the frogs at night. The location is perfect - you feel like you are far off the beaten track but are actually very close to everything. I would recommend it to anyone."

  • Wonderful and relaxing!

"Our family of 7 had a great time together. Frank met us at the house and showed us around. The fresh baked bread and eggs were such a nice gift. My kids loved hearing his stories about the house, the antiques and art. We really enjoyed the outdoor fireplace and the kitchen was perfect too. There's even a crockpot to use to keep meals simple. We hope to be able to return sometime soon!"

  • Clean, Comfortable and Luxurious!

"My husband, friends, and I stayed in The Magnolia Cottage from 5/715-5/10/15 and had a magnificent time. From the moment we walked in to when we left we couldn't get over how beautiful, comfortable and clean this place was! My husband and I are "hotel snobs" and I am a huge "germophobe" but I felt comfortable walking around this cottage in my bare feet like I do at my own home! We have rented several houses (in Marco Island, Kelley's Island, and Hawaii) over the past several years... and this is the cleanest most accommodating place we have ever stayed at. This house has small features that make a world of difference. I can't emphasize how CLEAN everything is. They stock a whole serving tray of snacks and fridge of condiments, soda and juice (complimentary for your party). There are heated floors in the bathrooms, sleep number bed with music player, shampoo/conditioner/soap dispensers in the bathrooms, cable TV, plush towels, ridiculously comfortable pillows, and more! My friends and I cooked breakfast every morning at the cottage and found the kitchen fully stocked with everything we need. The pots, pans, wine glasses, mugs were all there. I am a huge tea drinker and there was a whole case of tea sachets with an awesome electric kettle that heated the water super fast! My group members were not coffee drinkers but there was a well stocked keurig machine as well. The hot tub was magnificent. They provide hot tub towels AND plush bath towels (they are labeled)! We also used the grill on the back porch the first night (they have an extra propane tank next to it if you run out.. how thoughtful is that?). Reading through the guest book I saw on two separate occasions people saw bears from this cottage. I was disappointed that I didn't get to see any bears... but that was my only discontent. :) I can tell that the owners put a lot of love in their work. The decor is very tasteful and modern. I would recommend anyone to stay at this place. I look forward to coming back in the future some time."

  • Affordable rental with turkeys but limited kitchen

"Four of us stayed with 2 medium dogs in May 2015. They loved the yard and porch and so did we! We grilled a few times and enjoyed the outdoors. The turkeys made multiple daily appearances! We didn't get to see any bears but that we just fine with us! The beds were very comfortable and we all slept well on them. There were sufficient linens and towels for everyone in our group which was very thoughtful by the host. The view is OK, you can see mountains in the distance but there are lots of more run down properties nearby that you also see, as mentioned by other reviewers. As long as you're aware of this going in, I think the price matches this. The owners are very sweet and dropped by once to make sure we were enjoying everything. For four people, the family room was a little small (furniture is quite oversized for the small family room which limits sitting space), but the TV and set up is otherwise good. There was not enough room for everyone to sit on the couches so one person had to take the rocking chair. The wallpaper in the bathroom was peeling off the walls and needs to be replaced. Despite all this, the only reason I took off one star was that the kitchen could have been better stocked. We stay in vacation rentals so that we can cook for some meals to save money during our vacations, as I imagine many of you do. Unfortunately, there were only cheap paring knives to use so that was a little tough to chop up our food! No tongs that we could find for the grill so my husband used a fork to get meat off the grill and singed his hand. Also there was one wine glass. So three of us ended up sipping wine out of juice glasses, which was fine, but didn't feel very classy. :-P It is a TINY kitchen with very limited workspace. If you don't care about cooking in a vacation rental this review probably doesn't apply to you, and I honestly feel bad about taking off a star, but it was quite challenging cooking our meals. The Biltmore was only 15 min away which was definitely worth the trip! We went down to Chimney Rock park one day and the view was incredible. We also went hiking in Pisgah National Forest-- I highly recommend going to Catawba Falls! It was about a 30 min drive northeast of the cabin. In downtown Asheville (about a 15 min drive) we ate at The Market Place, which was excellent! Overall, I would definitely recommend because of the great value for the stay! But just be aware of the limits of the kitchen."
