  • Most relaxing vacation yet

"This was definitely an adventure. Our family of four (two ten year old girls) spent a week enjoying the serenity of being surrounded by the Smoky Mountains (in front of you) and the Nantahala National Forest behind us. Steve gave us a brief intro on how to use the technology in the house (it took maybe 30 minutes, and you do need to pay attention). After that, we were truly off the grid. The water was amazing. It was easy to see 10-15 down into the lake and fun to watch our daughters neon suits almost glow. Most of our days were spent tubing behind the pontoon boat (not fast, but fun) and casting a line in the water. We boated to different locations around the park and spent time hiking in the Park, rarely seeing other boaters. We hit the rope swing down the river on a daily basis and enjoyed flinging ourselves out into the water. We caught numerous fish from the dock and ate them right away. We didn't get to fish out on the lake with Bobby, but we enjoyed his visits and his fishing advice from the house. And, the light pole he helped us erect for night fishing was a huge pastime. The TV was available, but rarely on. Like others, we ate every meal at the house -- which was a treat for us. Do NOT rely on the marinas for food or groceries. You do need to plan ahead with your supplies, but the kitchen was well-stocked. We loved eating dinner on the decking next to the house and watching the hummingbirds and scouting for bald eagles. It helped us that we had someone join us mid-week who brought additional food so we didn't have to leave the house for groceries. We rarely ran the electricity during the day and found the breeze to be pleasant enough to not need the AC provided, or the heat (we were starting to get chilly one night, which was a blessing). The bedding and towels provided were good quality and there were plenty of them. You are showering in lake water but it was clean and Steve provided plenty of drinking water and replenished extra ice throughout the week. The cell phone connection, as indicated, worked best in the lake but also worked at certain sweet spots on the deck and at night. We are strong swimmers. I wouldn't recommend this house for anyone who isn't very comfortable on the water. The house was stable and you barely felt it rocking in the gentle waves (which were mostly from the very few boats that went by). You do need to plan ahead to bring what you need and appreciate what you have. It was a true respite from reality."

  • Sensational stay at Riversky

"If you are going to be in the Ashville area, don't miss the opportunity to stay at this wonderful lodge. Once you locate it and "travel the gravel" to the top and are greeted by Strawberry, the wonderful property mascot, you will really appreciate what the owners have done with this rental. From the initial query until we departed the owners were most cooperative and ready to do anything to make our stay comfortable (Even though they were in China!) The lodge has everything you need except the food, but it was an easy trip to the Ingells Market in Marshall, where they had everything you need. The view from Riversky is awesome and we spent every available minute, day or night, soaking in the peaceful setting and finishing up the evening in the hot tub. The three level set-up is ideal for any group. We had 13 people from three families and it worked beautifully. I am sure we could have slept more in the lodge and we would have been very comfortable. Kitchen is very well stocked with cooking pots and pans and serving pieces. Asheville is really not far from the property. We were in and out of Asheville, a lot. We were staying at Riversky for a wedding that was held at a venue (Brown Farm) and we were the closest of all the 140 participants and guests that had come from out of state and the Johnson City area. Riversky could be considered as a place to hold a small wedding. What a spectacular setting it would be! We all thououghly enjoyed our stay and will return any time we come to visit the newlyweds."

  • Beautiful home

"This house is amazing. Great kitchen, big flat screen TVs, cable, internet, wood fireplace and electric fireplaces in both masters. It is secluded with great mountain views. We greatly enjoyed our stay. It's about 15 minutes from Waynesville and 35 from Asheville."
