  • 1st Smoky Mountain Vacation --- but NOT the Last!

"We recently rented Sophie's Choice for a 3-night stay. The cabin is immaculate and very well appointed. It is located near town (Bryson City), but situated in such a private setting that you feel you are a million miles away. We LOVED the cabin. While there, we hiked the Deep Creek trails and trails near the Road To Nowhere, visited numerous waterfalls, and took a very scenic drive from Bryson City to Highlands (Mountain Waters Scenic Byway) --- it was absolutely gorgeous! When we left Bryson City to return home we drove through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park to Gatlinburg. Gatlinburg is not for us --- too commercial. So glad we found Sophie's Choice. Next time we will stay longer and enjoy some rafting and kayaking!!"

  • Peaceful, updated mountainside cabin.

"Our family of 4 recently stayed at Stonewood Cabin. It is exactly as pictured. What you can't photograph is the serenity of the place. You leave the main highway and drive 2 miles up decent mountain roads to a tranquil cabin in the woods. The cabin is situated on the mountainside. While you cannot see the stream that is nearby, you can hear it when you are outside. There is a nice campfire area away from the house where you can enjoy the sounds of nature and the mountain stream without being bothered by the noise of neighbors. The cabin is quaint and decorated appropriately. You feel right at home when you enter the place. The hot tub was clean and ready to go for us when we arrived. The views are outstanding from all of the outside areas. I walked a bit up the road for some pictures of the mountains with higher elevations. A very serene and calming place this certainly was. The owner Annette, was just outstanding to work with. She talked with me about things to do in the area, answered all of my many questions, promptly returned all of my emails and our security deposit was credited back the day after we left! She has certainly thought of everything at the cabin including even labeling what goes in each cabinet! That was very helpful as my girls did some baking and I was able to put everything back right where it belonged. We will miss this little piece of heaven and the surrounding area."

  • Perfect long weekend

"We recently had the pleasure of staying at Huckleberry’s Hideout in Bryson City. The cabin was extremely comfortable and had everything we needed to enjoy a much needed long weekend. The well maintained cabin sits at the top of a long driveway and is very secluded. In the evenings we enjoyed rocking on the large porch, listening to the horses at the stables below and watching the glow of the fire in the fire pit. There is a nice grill for evening meals and a well equipped kitchen. On the second level there is a game room that we honestly did not use since we spent most of our free time on the porch but, would be a great asset to those traveling with children. Downtown Bryson City is a short drive away and the Ingles Supermarket had everything we needed and even some organic staples. We found the people of Bryson very friendly and accommodating. The downtown area was very busy on the weekend but we felt like we had it to ourselves during the week. We enjoyed “The Filling Station” for a quick sandwich, “The Cork and Bean” for dinner (I would have gone twice if we had the time) and a pretty authentic Italian restaurant,“ Pasqualino’s” . I cannot say enough about the location of this cabin. We felt close enough to everything and anything we wanted to do. The Nantahala Outdoor Center is a short drive with rapids easy enough for families or first timers. On the way to the NOC take a detour and check out Fontana Lake Dam and Tail of the Dragon (if your stomach is up to it…mine was not)! Also nearby are the Blue Ridge Parkway, Nantahala National Forest and Great Smokey Mountain Park with hours of hiking, driving and site seeing. I will briefly address the driveway since so many seemed to mention it in previous reviews. We drove a Toyota Rav4 with front wheel drive. We were able to get half way up but no further. After two tries we returned to the bottom and went up in reverse /backwards. We had no problems doing this and came and went with ease. Those with all-wheel drive should not have any issues. There is a place to park at the bottom of the driveway but it is a bit of a hike up. Do not let this deter you from renting this great cabin in a perfect location! Also want to extend a special thank you to the owners for allowing our furbaby to join us!"
