  • Comfortable Mountain Retreat

"What a great venue for a family vacation! It was our first time to visit Cashiers/Highlands area and our location gave us a perfect location from which to explore. We had great weather, enjoyed boating on Lake Glenville, did a little hiking. No shortage of things to do although the mountain roadways will keep you on your toes. The home was lovely, well-equipped, and was everything you would expect from a mountain getaway. The fact that it was dog friendly was also a definite plus for us. Looking forward to more family time there."

  • Simply Stunning....

"Our stay at "Mama Bear" was truly a family time to remember. From the Stunning views from every deck the Serenity of the NC Mountains was unveiled from your beautiful home, the Spacious accommodations easily handled our larger than usual family, the Special campfire with "Smores" for the children (and adults too) was a night to remember under the moonlit sky.... our Smooth canoe trip across the beautiful Bear Lake was a trip all enjoyed and then our week was topped off with SNOW as we ended our week.... thanks for opening your mountain retreat up for us all to enjoy...."

  • A great place to relax

"We rented this wonderful house for three nights. Rain or shine, the views from the screened porch were awe-inspiring--the photos don't do it justice. The place is well-equipped and comfortable--we ate in two of our three nights because we felt so relaxed we didn't want to go out, and the kitchen had everything we needed (and the view of the mountains from beside the grill is conducive to philosophical thoughts while grilling and sipping a glass of wine!) The house is convenient to attractions and dining in and around Sapphire, Cashiers and Highlands. It's probably a stretch for more than four people because of the layout of the interior, and I'm not sure it's a good place for kids (though there are three TVs and two DVD players, always helpful in a pinch.) The interior communal living space is limited, but with that porch who wants to be inside? I highly recommend this property and hope to visit again."

  • Beautiful Cabin, Great Pool and Lake, and Fabulous Back Porch

"We loved staying here and highly recommend it! We rented the cabin with another couple, and our 3 kids and their 1 kid all had a lovely time here. Our boys loved the bunk beds, and the back porch was perfect after long days having too much fun. Unfortunately, it was too warm to make much use of the fireplaces, but they looked like they would be great in the winter. The cabin is beautiful. Did I mention how nice the back porch is for relaxing in the evening? I highly recommend getting a pass for the pool (extra cost above cabin rental, but not that much). The pool is only about a 5 minute drive away, but it's over some seriously steep and curvy mountain roads, so you definitely have to drive it and not walk to the pool. There is a short water slide which our kids loved. Also right next to the pool are boats, jet skis, kayaks, paddleboards, canoes, etc. that you can rent. There is also a small beach you can swim at, as well as several picnic tables you can use if you bring your own lunch. We brought our dog down to the beach and he had a great time chasing sticks and balls that we threw in the water. (Dogs are allowed at the beach but not at the pool) Cell phone coverage is spotty, but it's going to be like that at any place in Bear Lake Reserve. The internet worked great, so any calls we needed to make could be done over Skype. I hope we can come back again someday."
