  • Perfect!!

"Everything about our Thanksgiving vacation and this house was amazing - including the snow on Thanksgiving morning! Lots of firewood for a cozy home after hiking in the snow (and ice). Close enough to Highlands, Whiteside Mtn, and Glen Falls. We also enjoyed walking and hiking in the neighborhood. The kitchen was complete with everything we needed, and the linens were plush. Thanks for paying attention to the details."

  • Intimate Proposal next to Private Waterfall

"My (now) fiance proposed to me on the balcony over the waterfall here. When we got to the cabin --it was breathtaking and I fell in love with it immediately! The outside of the cabin is exactly as in the photos, the waterfall is right next to the cabin and the property is landscaped and immaculate (Even in winter! We arrived Dec 20). Porches and decks wrap around part of the cabin and there are several entrances (2 at least from bedrooms) that lead outside. The inside of the cabin is all polished, gleaming wood with beautiful features, huge windows, sliding doors and fantastic lighting (lots on dimmers). We were a little worried about the heating because we are used to central heat and when we arrived it was very chilly inside but it took only 20 min after we turned all the heaters on and it warmed up enough that we turned all but 2 off. (We never needed the big heater in the LR though). The cabin has 2 levels but the second level can be closed off with a pocket door and the upstairs was all we needed anyway. The bed in the master was insanely comfy! It's a memoryfoam mattress and I don't remember the brand now but since we recently shopped for a similar bed for ourselves I can tell you that it was NOT a cheap mattress. It was one of the best nights sleep either of us have ever had. The sheets were high quality and there was a closet full of towels, xtra linens and blankets. The master bath is a bit small but it had a double vanity, drawers and counter top space enough for our stuff. The tub was deep and comfortable to lie back in. It's not a 2 person tub but is a perfect 1 person tub even for a big guy to be almost completely submerged. There was a small water pressure issue but the owners cleared it up right away. They were so helpful and friendly! The cabin was nearly perfect and even had board games and movies for the guests (there's dish tv too). There were a lot of little things that made it wonderful but vrbo only gives me so much space to write & I want to use the rest to say thank you Parker and Carmel! The directions were perfect, the water was fixed quickly and David was extremely impressed with how friendly and helpful you both were. I'm sorry I never spoke to you personally but I loved the cabin! David was so worried after the first cabin cancelled but we think that it was fate and are glad that we ended up at Waterfall Cabin! I can't imagine a more beautiful, intimate setting for his proposal and it will be a part of our memories forever!"

  • We didn't want to leave!!

"It doesn't get any better than the perfect weekend we just experienced at Lonesome Valley! The sun didn't stop shining, the trails and hikes got better on each outing, and we have already planned our return trip. We kept a roaring fire lit until it was time to leave. This cabin is good for the soul, and we are counting the days until we make it back to our "little piece of heaven!""

  • Beautiful Mountain Lake Retreat

"We loved every minute of our one week stay at Happy Bears Cottage. We highly recommend Bear Lake Reserve for a quiet retreat amidst stunning beauty. The house is tastefully furnished and well-cared for -- there was ample seating in the living area, a huge dining table & bar stools with seating for ten, bedrooms with amazingly comfortable mattresses, and a nicely appointed gourmet kitchen adequately supplied for cooking for a crowd for the chefs among you. We loved having the large screened porch out back. It provided a safe place for our little ones to play -- with two seating areas for the adults as well. The view from the porch was stunning -- it directly overlooks a well-groomed pond, with views of the mountains beyond it. From the porch, you have easy access to a large, level grassy area around the pond -- perfect for our grandkids to enjoy. And just beyond the pond was the amphitheater area, with an even larger grassy field. This cottage is very close to the main gate, which gave us quick access to the surrounding areas on the days we wanted to explore. There are two small towns (Sylva & Cullowhee) within a 30 minute drive with grocery stores and other necessities. We spent a day at the Biltmore Estate, which is a scenic one-hour drive away. There are lots of outdoor activities available in this general area: rock climbing, hiking, beautiful waterfalls & gem mining (Franklin area), horseback riding, zip-lining & whitewater rafting. But with the outstanding amenities available at Bear Lake Reserve, you may never leave the resort! Everything was top-notch and well-groomed -- from the incredible mountaintop golf course with stunning long range views, to the lake club area with its two pool areas & gorgeous views of the lake (one infinity pool for adults & one kiddie pool with slide), plus the amenities at the lake club (theatre room, library, kids' playroom, restaurant & café, fitness center), in addition to the marina area with various boat rentals, as well as the trout pond pavilion with catch & release fishing in their stocked pond, to the Bear Creek Park area with nature trails, fire pits & camp areas for family adventures -- there are so many activities to enjoy in this resort community! Do be aware that this particular cottage is not suited for anyone with limited mobility -- there is a steep slope with stone steps from the small parking pad to the front entrance. However, I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone else -- we loved it!!"
