Perfect spot - in between and close to so many things!
"This was a very spur of the moment trip for us, and the owner and neighbor were SO accommodating for us on such short notice. I loved the location, so close to Brevard, Hendersonville, Flat Rock, and Asheville, it was perfect. I admit, we spent most our time in the Du Pont State forest (GREAT mountain biking!!), but we hiked a couple places in Pisgah and some trips into nearby towns. This place was a perfect location to do all that, and the cabin itself was very well equipped with everything we needed, and very comfortable. The deck was great and the lake was fun to walk around and my sons even fished and enjoyed that."

"Cardinal Cottage was a great place to stay in the Hendersonville/Asheville area. It's nestled in the woods so it seems very private and is very picturesque. We loved sitting on the enclosed porch. All the amenities were included so it really did seem like a home away from home...so much more comfortable than a hotel room. We would definitely stay there again when we are in the area. Lonnie and David are very welcoming."

"This was definitely an adventure. Our family of four (two ten year old girls) spent a week enjoying the serenity of being surrounded by the Smoky Mountains (in front of you) and the Nantahala National Forest behind us. Steve gave us a brief intro on how to use the technology in the house (it took maybe 30 minutes, and you do need to pay attention). After that, we were truly off the grid.
The water was amazing. It was easy to see 10-15 down into the lake and fun to watch our daughters neon suits almost glow. Most of our days were spent tubing behind the pontoon boat (not fast, but fun) and casting a line in the water. We boated to different locations around the park and spent time hiking in the Park, rarely seeing other boaters. We hit the rope swing down the river on a daily basis and enjoyed flinging ourselves out into the water. We caught numerous fish from the dock and ate them right away. We didn't get to fish out on the lake with Bobby, but we enjoyed his visits and his fishing advice from the house. And, the light pole he helped us erect for night fishing was a huge pastime. The TV was available, but rarely on.
Like others, we ate every meal at the house -- which was a treat for us. Do NOT rely on the marinas for food or groceries. You do need to plan ahead with your supplies, but the kitchen was well-stocked. We loved eating dinner on the decking next to the house and watching the hummingbirds and scouting for bald eagles. It helped us that we had someone join us mid-week who brought additional food so we didn't have to leave the house for groceries.
We rarely ran the electricity during the day and found the breeze to be pleasant enough to not need the AC provided, or the heat (we were starting to get chilly one night, which was a blessing). The bedding and towels provided were good quality and there were plenty of them. You are showering in lake water but it was clean and Steve provided plenty of drinking water and replenished extra ice throughout the week. The cell phone connection, as indicated, worked best in the lake but also worked at certain sweet spots on the deck and at night.
We are strong swimmers. I wouldn't recommend this house for anyone who isn't very comfortable on the water. The house was stable and you barely felt it rocking in the gentle waves (which were mostly from the very few boats that went by). You do need to plan ahead to bring what you need and appreciate what you have. It was a true respite from reality."

We recently spent a lovely week at this gem of a rental. It sits on a stunning piece of land, is clean and roomy, filled with light. It oozes laid-back southern charrm. Our kids, 8 and 5, loved the grounds and tree swing. And especially the visiting cows! And, though we could have easily just stayed at the house the whole week and been perfectly content, it served as a great jumping off point for all that Asheville and Hendersonville and the Blue Ridge Mountains have to offer. Jody was super easy and super responsive and I have nothing but great things to say about the whole experience. And the beautiful NC countryside. 6 stars out of 5!"
