"We are long time visitors to this are. We had a great time and stayed an extra night to boot. Diane was easy to work with especially with our pet. Had a few minor issues but Diane said they would be taken care of and we would recommend this property to anyone with a family. The hornets under the front porch were not an issue as long as you left them alone, this is nature you know. We would like to come back in the future and miss the Cafe REL and the cool nights already. JG"

"We stayed a full week at Fireman's Dream in mid-July. We have a 2 year-old, a 9 month-old and 2 Labrador Retrievers and we were all accommodated nicely in this wonderful home just outside of Franklin. The layout of the cabin gave all of us the space we needed; we never felt crowded. We spent most of our time outside the cabin on the huge enclosed porch. Each end of the porch has a secure gate that kept our kids and dogs from wandering down the stairs which I really appreciated.
The home is beautifully decorated and very clean, and has all the amenities you'd need to prepare a big meal in the kitchen. We enjoyed having access to Netflix on the SmartTV in the living room. We didn't try the other TVs. The playspace in the basement was also nice for our kids. We used the washer and dryer regularly so that was also a great bonus. I do wish there was a dishwasher, but it wasn't a big deal.
Having kid gear on site was a major reason we chose to stay here. We used the pack and play, crib, highchair, swing set, 2 baby gates and many of the toys and books. It was so helpful to have these things in the cabin so we had a lighter load to pack. The first pack and play that we tried for our 9 month-old had a broken side, unfortunately, and needs to be replaced/removed. However, there was a great, sturdy wooden crib (size of a porta-crib or pack and play) that worked wonderfully. The tray on the high chair didn't seem to fit securely to the high chair, so that was a bit of a concern. The swing set is old; the see-saw swing is broken and 1 side is weighted down with a big rock. The swings were in good shape but we didn't use the slide. Theses weren't huge problems for us since most of our trip was spent away from the cabin exploring the area, but considerations for other families to take in to account.
The cabin is about a 25 minute drive from downtown Franklin and/or the nearest grocery store. The drive isn't too twisty and the driveway, while steep, was easily accessed. The drive is also beautifully scenic.
Our favorite moments at the cabin were spent sitting on the porch in the evenings playing games and shrieking when bats flew by! We also watched a storm roll in over the mountain across the valley, which was a beautiful sight.
I'd recommend this cabin to families with dogs looking for a central location to explore the Nantahala National Forest. It met and exceeded our needs!"

Great place to stay, even when it rained every day
"My wife and I met friends and spent 3 great nights and days. The cabin had everything we needed, we ate in three nights, including cooking beer can chicken on the grill in the rain. Cabin was very comfortable, clean and what we liked most - quiet. Would return!!"

"This property was indeed a taste of home. It featured a roomy, well-equipped kitchen, a comfortable living area and three bedrooms. The best part was the large screened porch where we spent an afternoon and evenings listening to the quiet. It hasn't been modernized, but there's a real nostalgic appeal. Located a few miles from downtown Brevard, it offered convenience as well as a beautiful natural setting. We spent a day in Asheville, about 45 away, an afternoon exploring the downtown shops in Brevard and a day exploring waterfalls in Pisgah National Forest. If you're looking for great food and a welcoming atmosphere, check out The Falls Landing. We also liked Rocky's Soda Shop, a family-friendly old-style burger and shake joint."
