"We have travelled frequently to Highlands for more than 30 years and have often stayed for several weeks at a time as we did on this trip. Without a doubt, this is the most outstanding home we have visited. It is beautifully and lovingly maintained, professionally designed and decorated, and has an intelligent floorplan offering an upstairs master and two downstairs bedroomns and a separate sitting room. The many personal touches make you feel special and more like welcomed family than rental guests. The kitchen has every imaginable tool you could ever need. The cookbooks are a dream for any home cook, and we used them several times. The decks are in the tree tops with magnificent specimen trees including hemlocks and large leaf magnolias. We were greeted in early July with rhododendron blooming over the entrance which was a magical experience. The canoes were so much fun, and we enjoyed many evenings watching the water at the boathouse. The location is perfect and about half way between Highlands and Cashiers so we could easily get to Canyon Kitchen at Lonesome Valley for dinner with one of the best views in the world or hike to the newly opened state park at The Gorges with a wonderful visitors center with a picnic on a rock perched above Horsepasture River for another grand view. We also visited Southern Highlands Plateau which is a private garden on top of Toxaway that propogates and displays native plants in a glorious setting. Reservations can be obtained on the internet, but we went with a group of enthusiastic gardeners from a Zahner Lecture at the Highlands Nature Center that was accompanied by a botanist from UNC Charlotte. There are many lectures thoroughout the season, and they are highly recommended. The Performing Art's Center has plays all summer and we attended two during our three weeks at this wonderful Highlands home. The Highlands Chamber Music Festival is truly outstanding with many, many performances during the summer and we enjoyed several. We hiked at the Nature Center, Whiteside Mountain, Cliffside Lake, Chinquopin and Panthertown which was our favorite. We will always stay in this home when we visit Highlands. There is no reason to look anyplace else. It is perfect in every way. If I could rate it more than a FIVE I would! Thank you so much, Bruce!"

  • Great Location

"We had a great stay at the rustic Red Cabin. It fit our needs and was close to the awesome waterfalls we wanted to see in Transylvania County."

  • After 8 years visiting the Smokies, best view we've had yet!

"And the view isn't the only great thing ever! This cabin was so clean and cozy! We are a family of 5 and since our three kids all fit in one queen bed, we didn't even use the downstairs portion, so there was plenty of room! You feel like you are at the top of the mountain and pretty well secluded too with only one cabin slightly visible below. We plan to return as soon as we can! Also, the cabin is just minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway!"

  • Cozy Charm - A Rustic Respite!

"Words are hard to procure to describe the warmth which oozes from this "nest" in the woods. The Partridge Nest exceeded our expectations in every regard! From the warm welcome on a personalized sign as we entered the walkway, to the sound of the vintage screen door as it closed behind us, to Starbucks coffee and other basic provisions left for our convenience, to books & magazines for our perusal at whim, to a most comfortable bed enveloping our weary bodies late evenings, to a porch with a snuggly swing complete with reader's swinglamp, furry blankets and soft pillows....get the picture? We indulged in 4 days & nights in this special hideaway. Next visit, we'll plan for less not have set foot outside the cabin (except for a stroll) would've been conducive to a complete escape beyond life's daily demands. The owners, Charlie & Jean were superb with communication and meeting our every need. They are fun-loving people who obviously enjoy sharing their little slice of rustic & woodsy heaven on earth! Talented and gifted for bringing their decor style to life while covering every last detail and then some....we cannot possibly say enough to endorse their hillside haven in the Partridge Nest cabin/ must experience it for yourself!"
