  • Thanksgiving getaway

"First of all, Brad and Ginger were wonderful "hosts/owners" and were communicative and responsive right from the start. Ginger even baked delicious chocolate cookies and had them ready for our arrival - how great is that? :-) They both met us a little after we arrived and walked us through a few things around the cabin; they also were able to show us some trails on a map they provided that were close by. About the cabin: The cabin itself is tucked away and about 25-30 min from the nearest town with grocery store, etc. and we didn't have cell service (they do have Wifi at the cabin, so you're not completely out of touch) but that definitely adds to the charm of being able to "unplug" and get away. We were able to take our kids to the Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest for a little trail adventure and there are heaps of other interesting trails nearby. It's a great area for being outdoors. The kitchen has all the amenities that you need for cooking a big meal, the beds were very comfy and we loved using the hot tub and the outdoor fire pit. We would recommend this cabin to others. (Just be aware that you will have to lug your trash with you when you leave.) Brad and Ginger are lovely and their cabin is a great spot to unwind and take it easy!"

  • Incredible views of the Great Smoky Mountains

"The views from all of the decks of the Longview Cabin are absolutely incredible. Each morning the fog and clouds rise up from the mountains to create a breathtaking view. The Longview Cabin is loaded with everything. It is very cozy and comfortable after coming in from out daily excursions. It is centrally located to numerous sites and outdoor activities. Robert, the owner - made it so easy and convenient to work with. Would highly recommend to all interested parties."

  • Perfection :)

"Wow, i dont know where to begin. I just arrived back home from one of the best vacations i have ever been on. I stayed at Terry's Cabernet Cabin 4 days and there was nothing that could have made it any better. The rooms, bed, jacuzzi, fireplace, creek, decks, supplies, linens, kitchenware...all were perfection and nothing was lacking. The cabin is secluded and i did not see one car or one person the entire time i was there, which for me was perfect. I had planned on going out and doing some sightseeing but after arriving i burrowed in with my books, laptop, some food and adult beverages and did not leave. I am already planning a trip back in 2015 :) The road to the cabin was no problem whatsoever if you drive the correct direction...they are narrow yes, but not dangerous at all. The leaves and trees and shrubbery in fall are part of the beauty....i dont think i have ever seen anything so beautiful as the colors of fall in North Carolina. It made my trip that much more special. Awesome ! Terry, i will be in touch soon to make my next reservation."

  • Beautiful Mountain Lake Retreat

"We loved every minute of our one week stay at Happy Bears Cottage. We highly recommend Bear Lake Reserve for a quiet retreat amidst stunning beauty. The house is tastefully furnished and well-cared for -- there was ample seating in the living area, a huge dining table & bar stools with seating for ten, bedrooms with amazingly comfortable mattresses, and a nicely appointed gourmet kitchen adequately supplied for cooking for a crowd for the chefs among you. We loved having the large screened porch out back. It provided a safe place for our little ones to play -- with two seating areas for the adults as well. The view from the porch was stunning -- it directly overlooks a well-groomed pond, with views of the mountains beyond it. From the porch, you have easy access to a large, level grassy area around the pond -- perfect for our grandkids to enjoy. And just beyond the pond was the amphitheater area, with an even larger grassy field. This cottage is very close to the main gate, which gave us quick access to the surrounding areas on the days we wanted to explore. There are two small towns (Sylva & Cullowhee) within a 30 minute drive with grocery stores and other necessities. We spent a day at the Biltmore Estate, which is a scenic one-hour drive away. There are lots of outdoor activities available in this general area: rock climbing, hiking, beautiful waterfalls & gem mining (Franklin area), horseback riding, zip-lining & whitewater rafting. But with the outstanding amenities available at Bear Lake Reserve, you may never leave the resort! Everything was top-notch and well-groomed -- from the incredible mountaintop golf course with stunning long range views, to the lake club area with its two pool areas & gorgeous views of the lake (one infinity pool for adults & one kiddie pool with slide), plus the amenities at the lake club (theatre room, library, kids' playroom, restaurant & café, fitness center), in addition to the marina area with various boat rentals, as well as the trout pond pavilion with catch & release fishing in their stocked pond, to the Bear Creek Park area with nature trails, fire pits & camp areas for family adventures -- there are so many activities to enjoy in this resort community! Do be aware that this particular cottage is not suited for anyone with limited mobility -- there is a steep slope with stone steps from the small parking pad to the front entrance. However, I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone else -- we loved it!!"
