  • WOW

"Our children gave us this trip as our Christmas present knowing we desperately needed the time away from our hectic life's. We can't begin to compare this wonderfully thoughtful gift to any gift ever received before especially as we reached our destination to see such an absolutely magical setting. Dale and Robbie God knew exactly what he was doing by appointing the two of you as caretakers of Campbell Mountain. Seeing all the stonework, bridges, 3 tier water pond and the stone steps that lead gently onto the moss covered lawn had us feeling as if we've step into Thomas Kinkade painting. My husband is a beach person as I prefer the mountains yet now he looks forward to our annual mountain trips as much as I do. Every year I get on the internet and search for the perfect place to stay with ratings ranging from economy to luxury and your place by far checks all the boxes.....never have we found a cabin setting that offered the best of both worlds. Our children have given us a gift of a lifetime because we intend to return EVERY YEAR for the rest of our life's. We're still in awe of how you managed to create a fairytale setting while incorporating multiple levels of practical functionality that accommodates any age level....and yet you've done it without ever taking away from its magic. The inside of the cabin didn't disappoint either....plenty of light, comfortable bed with upscale bedding, well appointed kitchen, comfortable seating and none of that cheap toilet paper. We love the antique bedroom door and the family history attached to it. If I could make just one recommendation it would be nice to have an end table beside the couch as I'm a heavy coffee drinker. Getting to know the both of you was another hi-lite of our stay. You are as genuine as they come and fun to talk with. We can't wait to return each year to see what you've added as you both are true visionaries of the land, poetry and photography. Dale we can't wait to see the completion of your church for Robbie ...we know it's going to blow our minds. Robbie we know you'll miss your mom's piano not being in the church.....but remember your instrument is the land..... and you play it beautifully! We are so grateful to our children for this gift and grateful that you shared your wonderful cabin on Campbell Mountain with us.....see ya next year."

  • Most relaxing vacation yet

"This was definitely an adventure. Our family of four (two ten year old girls) spent a week enjoying the serenity of being surrounded by the Smoky Mountains (in front of you) and the Nantahala National Forest behind us. Steve gave us a brief intro on how to use the technology in the house (it took maybe 30 minutes, and you do need to pay attention). After that, we were truly off the grid. The water was amazing. It was easy to see 10-15 down into the lake and fun to watch our daughters neon suits almost glow. Most of our days were spent tubing behind the pontoon boat (not fast, but fun) and casting a line in the water. We boated to different locations around the park and spent time hiking in the Park, rarely seeing other boaters. We hit the rope swing down the river on a daily basis and enjoyed flinging ourselves out into the water. We caught numerous fish from the dock and ate them right away. We didn't get to fish out on the lake with Bobby, but we enjoyed his visits and his fishing advice from the house. And, the light pole he helped us erect for night fishing was a huge pastime. The TV was available, but rarely on. Like others, we ate every meal at the house -- which was a treat for us. Do NOT rely on the marinas for food or groceries. You do need to plan ahead with your supplies, but the kitchen was well-stocked. We loved eating dinner on the decking next to the house and watching the hummingbirds and scouting for bald eagles. It helped us that we had someone join us mid-week who brought additional food so we didn't have to leave the house for groceries. We rarely ran the electricity during the day and found the breeze to be pleasant enough to not need the AC provided, or the heat (we were starting to get chilly one night, which was a blessing). The bedding and towels provided were good quality and there were plenty of them. You are showering in lake water but it was clean and Steve provided plenty of drinking water and replenished extra ice throughout the week. The cell phone connection, as indicated, worked best in the lake but also worked at certain sweet spots on the deck and at night. We are strong swimmers. I wouldn't recommend this house for anyone who isn't very comfortable on the water. The house was stable and you barely felt it rocking in the gentle waves (which were mostly from the very few boats that went by). You do need to plan ahead to bring what you need and appreciate what you have. It was a true respite from reality."
