  • Great Place to Get Away

"Our family (kids ages 11 and 9) really enjoyed the house on the mountain in the woods! Make sure you arrive during daylight for the first time you drive on the driveway and to make sure you can enjoy the gorgeous sunset! You can hike right outside your door down to the creek (kids loved exploring the area & creek). The waterfalls on 64 were great- don't miss incredible Dry Falls- but you can take Buck Creek Rd as a better drive to Highlands and Cashiers. We enjoyed the distance to the towns as the drive is very scenic. Whiteside Mtn is a go to hike and easy to get to Whitewater Falls is incredible. The house is very comfortable, clean, and a relaxing place to be. FYI... Highlands Zipline was a blast and has options for the whole family."

  • It's all about the view!

"Our family vacations have always been at the beach. So I guess we are flatlanders! The first drive up Highland Gap Road was a shocker, very curvy and somewhat narrow road. As it happens, over the week, this curvy road became one of the things a loved most about this very private location. We saw 3 deer and a wild turkey the 1st day trying to find the house. The iron railing around the deck prevented any obstruction of view and with no down exit we did not have to worry about the safety of our french bull dog, Lulu. The 2nd week of Aug and we never had the a/c on. Hubby and adult children went white water rafting, kayaking, and hiking. I had to baby sit Lulu, which was not a problem in this relaxing home. Only negative was the sofa. It really, really needs replacing."

  • Serenity with adventure

"We stayed at Trails Innfor 30 days. Choosing a house on the internet is very difficult as every house seems wonderful. We liked the idea of a 60 year old well established home that had a history of being lived in. We wanted a degree of seclusion to enjoy nature. We intended to view waterfalls and make many hikes and walks. Being seconds from Main Street versus minutes was not important. On arrival, we were met by the owners and thoroughly briefed. It was difficult paying attention as the house was absolutely perfect and we were struck by the immediate realization that we had lucked out with our choice. We also realized that we were very fortunate to have Anne and Richard as the owners. It was like meeting new friends. They provided mountains of brochures and information with information, maps and tips on things to do and where to eat. The house proved to be ideal. It is perfectly maintained, wonderfully outfitted and the location is such that the word idyllic is used every day. The kitchen had everything one could want, appliances there and elsewhere worked just fine as did everything else. The master bedroom had a great bed and a flatscreen TV. Sleeping was aided by the sound of rushing water. The two bathrooms were recently redone with large tiles and an electrically heated floor. The living room had another flat screen TV and many books that fitted our era. Wifi worked perfectly. Another couple joined us for 3 days and loved the equally splendid guest bedroom. We just about visited every one of the many waterfalls and hiked every trail and climbed every mountain with a picnic lunch in the backpack. Hiking under cascades of blooming Rhododendrons alongside mountain streams is not Florida. The house was so well appointed that there was a story in every room waiting to be told. There were even many walking sticks resting by the front door, asking to be used. We found the elevation and climate to be deliciously cool and the occasional rain to be welcome. We kept the bird feeder full and enjoyed the many antics it created. We found time to make an overnight side trip to revisit the Biltmore Estate at Asheville. We have had many enjoyable vacations but have always felt when it was time to leave and that it would be good to get home. This time we did not want to leave."
