  • Family Christmas on the Lake... Beyond our dreams!

"From the first moment of contact, Mike (the owner) was a joy to deal with. This was a family reunion Christmas for us and one of the children has special needs. Mike and his family did everything possible to accommodate his needs & make our Christmas one to remember forever... including having the house decorated for the holidays. Mike was always easily reached by cell phone or email to answer our dozens of questions. I can't say thank you enough. Our impressions? 1. If you are coming in from Franklin, the roads are very twisty. You will get used to it fairly quickly. It's a flatter & straighter drive in from Andrews. The driveway IS extremely steep & a bit overwhelming at first, but we were backing up & down it with ease within a short time. 2. The house was a PERFECT fit. Loved the outdoor pavilion with fireplace & Hot tub overlooking lake. Kids fished off the dock daily. Gas fireplace in Master BR was a fantastic bonus (we spent many days curled up watching movies). Master bath is a dream. After a hot tub soak, the kids loved getting warm & dry in the upstairs hall sauna. It was equally relaxing for the adults. The kids LOVED bunking all together in the bunk room, as well as playing pool on the nearby billiards table. The decorations throughout are darling & rustic & we found something almost daily to "ooh & aah" over. The kitchen was WELL stocked with almost anything we needed (hand mixer, wine opener, can opener, cookie sheets, cheese grater, big pots, etc.) If I had to find anything to nit pick about (which is hard to do), we would have liked it if the second queen BR had a TV & wished the fireplace in the living room was gas rather than electric (stone fireplace in the kitchen was AMAZING. You do have to order wood). Otherwise EVERYTHING was at or over expectation. 3. Nearby tips: Wayah Bald is a 15 minute drive & a must see with incredible panoramic views. Two waterfalls are located on Wayah Road (1 on your left just past Junalaska RD, a great fishing spot) & a much taller one a few miles down on right. Also, you can hike nearby on the Rufus Morgan Trail to a third waterfall that is 60' high (a ten minute drive & a 1 mile hike). Also at least 3 nearby geocaches. 4. STOCK UP, stores are not close. Andrews (25 minute drive) is smaller than Franklin but MUCH easier to get to & while quite small, has a supermarket & drugstore. Be SURE to stop there at the quaint "Corner Coffee Co." for an OUTSTANDING cup of coffee. *WE WILL DEFINITELY RETURN!"

  • Misty Laurel Chalet

"This is an excellent home and a superb value. The home is clean, well maintained and well supplied. We spent a week with our family of six adults and four children and had a wonderful time. We enjoyed hiking to waterfalls, zip lining, fishing, rafting the Nantahala, and tubing the Oconoluftee, and just relaxing on the deck with a beautiful view. We also enjoyed some of the board games provided. The fishing day with Dale Raxter was a highlight. The owner was very helpful to us in planning our events, and describing the home. We recommend this property to anyone wanting to vacation in a beautiful area with nearly unlimited activities for all ages."

  • Just perfect

"This cabin is exactly as pictured. It's beautiful and the views are spectacular. All was very clean and the upgrades in this cabin are just amazing - something not found in most rental properties. We had trouble starting the gas fire place the first night and the owners came out that evening to help us. As the location is rather remote, I'm sure this was out of their way, so it was much appreciated. Please know that the internet is s l o w, but you're not there to hang out on the computer anyway. Your cell phone won't work either, so enjoy the people you're with! We stayed busy playing pool, taking long walks, playing games (bring your own) and watching movies (decent collection there) in the incredible theater room. We really hope to return in the summer sometime, as canoeing the lake would be great! Last note: The paved road ends a a couple of miles before you get to this cabin... and then you drive through a small creek... We really thought we were lost. Then the GPS said the location was on the left, where we saw an old trailer with broken windows. Funny now. After a moment of panic we found the place. Glad we arrived in daylight. With no cell service be sure you print your directions or use a Garmin, which worked except for the trailer."
