  • Fall in love with Lake Nantahala!

"What a wonderful experience we had at Jerry and Lisa's beautiful home. We could not have chosen a better location and people to deal with. Lake Nantahala is beautiful, peaceful and pristine. The view from this home is one of the best, it's like opening heaven's gate when you walk out of the doors onto the deck, absolutely beautiful and take in the view for the first time. This house has everything, and I mean everything we needed! Quality items throughout the house for our use, a fully stocked kitchen with high end items, hot tub and beautiful dock with row boat. We rented a boat for our stay at the marina. Jerry and Lisa have water skis and tubing equipment there for a full day of fun! We roasted marshmallows and popped popcorn on the lower deck one evening over the fire in the outdoor fireplace. It was amazing! We would definitely book here again, our experience all around was the best!! Great for families with children or for a family get together. Everyone will be comfortable. Thanks again Jerry and Lisa for sharing your home with us!"

  • Good getaway for the stout of heart

"The Iron Duckling is a great cabin get away. Plenty of room for 6 people although 9 may feel cramped. The property is clean and very well appointed. Kitchen appliances and utensils are all high end. Phil is a friendly and courteous owner with whom I dealt to make arrangements. As the posting implies, the boat is a very special feature of the property. The lake is wonderful and you really need a boat to enjoy it. However, you will need a 4 wheel drive vehicle. We had a front wheel drive minivan and had difficulty getting to the property. Furthermore, the boat is quite the hike to and from the cabin. It's about a 15 minute hike down the mountain to the boat but, depending on your ability, it can be a strenuous 30+ minute hike back up. Older, very young, or impaired guests will have a great deal of difficulty. The property is remarkably private and quiet. There is a cabin that could be considered 'next door' that could comprimise privacy when occupied but it does not appear to be a rental and was thankfully empty during our stay. Although there are 3 bedrooms plus a loft with convertable sofas, one bedroom is smallish with a bed to match. I would think it would be suitable for a single adult in most cases. The loft could accommodate 3 kids if they get along very well. However, there is only common seating for a few people. The living room sits 4 people comfortably with chairs on the front porch that could seat 4 people in nice weather. If you bring a very full family, be prepared to compete for a comfy perch. Although the number of flying insects is suspiciously low, there is no screened area oustide so the few mosquitos there are do manage to find you if you don't have some other defense (repellant, candles, etc.) The property is rather remote. If boating isn't your thing (and you don't have a 4 wheel drive vehicle) your goal can only be solitude. I don't mean that to be a criticism. Getting away from it all can be difficult to accomplish. If you are looking to go shopping for local crafts, enjoying some cultural events, or evening taking in a movie to break up the stillness, be prepared to commute to and from the Iron Duckling. That said, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend the property with these things in mind."

  • Mountain Paradise

"Beautiful mountain cabin on Lake Nantahala! Spectacular views of the lake and a fantastic home make this a true mountain paradise! The house had everything you could possibly ask for. It was very cozy, clean, well maintained, and beautifully decorated! Our family enjoyed boating on the lake, swimming, climbing the waterfall and discovering the rope swing! The dock was close to the house with minimal stairs to climb as compared to other houses on the lake. A fantastic time was had by all! We were a little nervous about booking through VRBO for the 1st time but Dwight, the owner, quickly made us feel comfortable. He is very accommodating and a pleasure to work with, calling the day we arrived to make sure we arrived safely and to see if we needed anything. We will definitely recommend this beautiful home to our friends looking for a relaxing getaway and hope to return again in the future."

  • Nice little gem in the mountains!!

"Whenever booking online you always wonder about if the cabin will be what the pictures show, when we arrived at this cabin for our vacation we discovered a little gem of a cabin that is even nicer than in the pictures! Nice and clean, and very very peaceful! Even though the dam at the bottom was undergoing restoration, even the heavy equipment was not really heard and was completely unseen at the bottom of the drive across the road!! In the evenings, there was the occasional car you would hear heading up the main road but that was all. The drive and parking area are well maintained so that in all but very inclement weather it is accessible by most any vehicle. Here is where I must add one note (and this is not uncommon in mountain cabins) *** THIS IS NOT A MOTORCYCLE FRIENDLY DRIVEWAY!! UNLESS YOU ARE AN EXPERIENCED RIDER, AVOID THIS ONE!!*** While we were able to get up and down the drive on our bike, for inexperienced riders it would probably be more than they could handle, as it is a steep (albeit well maintained) gravel driveway. Other than that this is a very nice cabin that is close to Nantahala and some very nice fishing holes, including several within walking distance on Oak Creek!"
