The Hanlon Family celebration of the 70th Birthday of Dad Hanlon
"If I was to build a place of beauty on a pristine clean lake in the western North Carolina Smokey Mountains I could save myself the trouble and simply stay at Sunset Point...it was simply splendid and my family and I had the best of times complete with a nice boat we rented for the occasion. This place has everything you need for a wonderful vacation and we had so much fun...Nothing more to say...it was priceless!!! Complete with a walk on the Appalachian Trail at 5.328 feet !!"

"We love this place! But getting there was a joy in itself.
Driving down Waterfall Byway of North Carolina you can hike to a wonderful array of waterfalls along its winding route. In autumn, the beautiful foliage lined the road embracing you in vibrant colors as you curved around every corner. As you turn into Wayah Rd. from Franklin to Nantahala, you begin at the foothills of the Smokies. Farm houses and church sit quietly below the towering peaks around them welcoming your eyes as you drive by. You'll be deep in the beautiful Nantahala Mountain before you know it, and make sure you check out Wayah Bald along the way.
Upon arriving, the house was a welcoming site. Ample parking spaces for 4+ cars. The gorgeous view of the lake in autumn will take your breath away immediately when you open the front door. You'll be greeted with the warm evening light from the setting sun over the peaks across the lake. We didn't even unpack. We took off immediately to the back deck to take sight in. There is a canoe and paddle boat below at the dock waiting patient for you to take them to the water. There was always a delightful breeze gently blowing across the valley. It was a perfect autumn evening.
The house had everything we needed and more. You may think they don't have it until you find it in one of the many cabinets or closets there. There is a gas furnace there for heating and the fireplace is ready if you prefer that too. Plenty of clean towels and sheets if you need them. The washer and dryer are on the lower floor along with ping pong tables and couches for you hang out. Both floor have decks looking out to the lake.
The lake receded somewhat when we were there as it was autumn. The dock ran into ground as it was tied down. However, it was easy to get the canoe into the water. There may be at the most one two boat in the lake at the time when we paddle out. Most of the time it feels like the lake was all yours.
I will say no more. You'll love this place if you appreciate nature and its quietness. When I looked for a vacation rental, I though it was either the lake or the mountain. But my Fiancee wanted both and she got it! We stayed Oct 26th through the 29th."

"This house is GORGEOUS! The pictures do not do it justice. It is huge. Clean. Great amenities. Tons of beds. Beautiful view. Fun pontoon boat (only a 50, so no waterskiing). We saw a smaller house for sale as we were walking around the neighborhood. They were asking $900K. This house is probably worth twice that. It's really spectacular.
It has a nice easy walkway down to the dock. It's fun to run and jump off the dock and swim in the lake. The pontoon is great for exploring the lake, picnicking, and visiting the rope swings and waterfalls. The hot tub is great. The kitchen is to die for. Huge, everything you could need, granite counters. Big dining table for evening meals.
We only left for one day to shop at Waynesville and go to Sliding Rock. We spent the rest of the time at the house or on the boat and loved every minute of it. Kids can't wait to go back!"

"The house was perfect for myself, my husband, the two 14 year old boys, our 17 year old and our boxer dog. It had everything you could need at a lake- except cell service. The house has a great lay-out and was just what we needed. We spent tons of time in the kayaks fishing and enjoyed the hammock. The gated community is a great place for long walks and peace and quiet. We felt safe and relaxed while there. It is close to a nice little cafe that has cell service and yummy food. It was easy to go whitewater rafting on the Nantahala river as the launch site was only 20 minutes away. It was absolutely wonderful.
The reason that I rated this property as good and not excellent is that it doesn't have cell service which makes it difficult to reach family members if they go somewhere without you. Be sure to purchase a long distance card before you get there. I also would not recommend stopping in Andrews for anything. Go on to Murphy. While we were in Andrews, we saw a woman get hit by her boyfriend and the locals ignored it like it was normal, several drug deals, and cars doing donuts in the local grocery store parking lot- all before 9 pm."
