  • Great cabin!

"My family of four has stayed at the cabin twice over the last 3 years and we just love the place. The Cashiers/Highlands area is the perfect getaway from the summer heat and humidity. The area is an outdoorsman’s paradise – fishing, swimming, hiking, cycling, horseback riding, rafting, golfing. Whatever outdoor activity you choose is available and the weather for it is perfect in the summer months. The cabin is very clean and well maintained. The kitchen is fully stocked. The basement area with a ping pong table and TV/VCR was perfect for family movie night and knock down, drag-out ping pong matches. The location at the north end of the lake is very secluded – little boat traffic/noise to interrupt the peaceful afternoons. We look forward to coming back again."

  • Great views, great property, more than expected!!

"We appreciated the previous review as we were looking for a mountain getaway and also looking at real estate in Champion Hills which we already knew was an exquisite development. This was truly the perfect vacation rental experience, luxuriously appointed and unlike many rentals, had quality in every aspect. It is equipped and furnished as a family home and you feel that--not simply a rental experience. The house is a great size (3,000 sq ft) w/bedrooms and bathrooms which are also quite large and was perfect for our guests; they are all "master" size. We loved the floor to ceiling stone fireplace, and the views of the mountains were magical! Our favorite room (the weather was perfect) was a large screened porch overlooking the deep mountain views. The lower level TV/entertainment room w/full balcony was great for board games, etc. The owners were the best to work with and we will definitely be back!"

  • Beautiful Mountain Lake Retreat

"We loved every minute of our one week stay at Happy Bears Cottage. We highly recommend Bear Lake Reserve for a quiet retreat amidst stunning beauty. The house is tastefully furnished and well-cared for -- there was ample seating in the living area, a huge dining table & bar stools with seating for ten, bedrooms with amazingly comfortable mattresses, and a nicely appointed gourmet kitchen adequately supplied for cooking for a crowd for the chefs among you. We loved having the large screened porch out back. It provided a safe place for our little ones to play -- with two seating areas for the adults as well. The view from the porch was stunning -- it directly overlooks a well-groomed pond, with views of the mountains beyond it. From the porch, you have easy access to a large, level grassy area around the pond -- perfect for our grandkids to enjoy. And just beyond the pond was the amphitheater area, with an even larger grassy field. This cottage is very close to the main gate, which gave us quick access to the surrounding areas on the days we wanted to explore. There are two small towns (Sylva & Cullowhee) within a 30 minute drive with grocery stores and other necessities. We spent a day at the Biltmore Estate, which is a scenic one-hour drive away. There are lots of outdoor activities available in this general area: rock climbing, hiking, beautiful waterfalls & gem mining (Franklin area), horseback riding, zip-lining & whitewater rafting. But with the outstanding amenities available at Bear Lake Reserve, you may never leave the resort! Everything was top-notch and well-groomed -- from the incredible mountaintop golf course with stunning long range views, to the lake club area with its two pool areas & gorgeous views of the lake (one infinity pool for adults & one kiddie pool with slide), plus the amenities at the lake club (theatre room, library, kids' playroom, restaurant & café, fitness center), in addition to the marina area with various boat rentals, as well as the trout pond pavilion with catch & release fishing in their stocked pond, to the Bear Creek Park area with nature trails, fire pits & camp areas for family adventures -- there are so many activities to enjoy in this resort community! Do be aware that this particular cottage is not suited for anyone with limited mobility -- there is a steep slope with stone steps from the small parking pad to the front entrance. However, I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone else -- we loved it!!"
