  • Great stay

"My husband and I recently stayed at Poplar Lodge this past weekend for our 14 year anniversary. We had an amazing time. Ginger was very helpful from making the reservation to getting to the cabin. We had a little trouble getting to the cabin, but Ginger stayed on the phone until we found it. Once we found it...the directions were right on cue....not sure how we had trouble! The craftsmanship and detail in the cabin was amazing. The hot tub was warm and waiting for our arrival. Bryson City is a charming town and we loved walking through the downtown area and visiting all the shops. The town was so friendly!! We will be back and hopefully sooner rather than later!"

  • Amazing Thanksgiving

"My family spent Thanksgiving at Laurel Cottage. It was a wonderful experience. The house is comfortable, well-stocked, and in a perfect setting. We woke up to a beautiful soft snow Thanksgiving day! This is the perfect family vacation spot. My son-in-law fished the river and my granddaughter loved playing in the pavilion. We will return."

  • First time in North Carolina

"We have used VRBO before as a way to find nice properties in which to stay for our vacations in Florida. About a month before our vacation, last-minute we decided to go to NC, somewhere near the Smokies. We originally wanted to be close to Asheville, but after scrutinizing (and I do mean fine detail scrutinizing) about 100 different properties, this is the one we picked because of how beautiful it was and all the amenities it included, and activities nearby. The cabin and it's view is absolutely wonderful and relaxing. We of course saw all the pics online, in real-life the cabin is even better. When we got there, stood on the porch with our kids gathered around us, peering into the cabin door window before we unlocked the door, it was a too good to be true moment. The cabin is a short distance off the main roads, and only minutes away from Murphy. Yet you feel you are in a remote area of the mountains. There is ample hiking and activities close-by, as well as the typical high-adventure touristy things like white water rafting, horseback riding, gem mining, ziplining all within an hour's drive. I would recommend Carolina Outfitters for rafting and Wildwater for Ziplining, both at Nantahala Gorge; and A Step Above Stables in GA for horseback riding. The weather was mostly sunny and 80-85 degrees every day, so we lucked out there. It did rain our very last day, which gave us time to fully enjoy the cabin, and spend time checking out downtown Murphy. The most interesting store in Murphy was Jem's Gems, owned and operated by Jane and her daughter Falcon. If you are ever in Murphy, you have to check this place out. Beautiful, hand-crafted, artistic jewelry made from gems from all over. These gals are very personable and spent a lot of time with our kids talking about gemstones from the area and the process it takes from getting the gemstone to the one-of-a-kind final jewelry product. They also have all sorts of other interesting items in their store. Last but not least, we found Mauro to be very helpful answering all our questions about the cabin and what we were wanting to do for our vacation. We eat healthy, mostly organic. We did not eat a single meal out, and found the kitchen to have everything we needed. Mauro responded immediately to our communications, and he called us the day before checkout to see how our vacation went, and to give some checkout reminders. We felt this was very nice of him. This was a 10/10 vacation and we hope to return here soon!!!"

  • Great House, Grounds, & location

"Wonderful home! Owners have taken care of every detail. Local assistance from Ellen, with any need or suggestions of hiking trails, sightseeing, etc. Lots to do in the area. Our visit was a girls getaway for four people. We enjoyed the house very much and are considering return visits with our families. I would not hesitate to recommend this house for rental. Two things to note: One is that there are a lot of stairs from the driveway to the house. They are clear in the photos. The other is that there is no cell service at the house. There is WIFI which seemed to work well. Also, there is a local phone with limited time long distance access. Neither of these things were a real issue for us."
