  • A Nice Labor Day Weekend Getaway

"Overall, we and a really nice time staying at this Lake Milton house. The house was very clean, and pretty well-stocked with what you'd need (although I did have to run out and by laundry detergent and paper towels - but there are a few convenience stores very nearby, so no big deal). Lake Milton itself is tons of fun - Craig Beach is great! I you have kids, this is a great place to spend a few days. My kids spent hours playing in the sand and in the water. We rented a pontoon boat at the nearby Lake Milton Marina (the only have a few boats for rent, but we were lucky and got one). So much fun riding around on the lake! My only complaint about this house was the TV situation. There are 4 TVs in this house, and only one of them worked during our stay (and even that one didn't work perfectly, since you had to get up and leave the room to change the channel.) Here's the situation: TV in the spare bedroom: doesn't work at all. It's not hooked up to anything. I'm not sure why it's there, honestly. TV in the kid bedroom, with the bunk beds: Doesn't work. It looks like it should be able to play DVDs and VHS tapes, but the players don't work with the flat-screen TV - the VCR and DVD players aren't compatible with the TV. TV in the master bedroom: this one worked, but it runs off the DirectTV box that's in the living room. So if you wanted to change the channel, you had to get up and walk a few steps into the living room to change the channel from the box. Not ideal. TV in the living room: this one should've worked, but it didn't. No picture ever came up on the screen. We followed John's instructions to the letter, and called him to let him know it wasn't working, but it didn't get fixed while we were there (not surprising, though, since we were only there Friday - Monday, so not much time to actually come and fix it.) The TV situation was a bit annoying, but not a deal breaker, since we spent our time at the lake. But if your idea of vacation is lying around and watching TV all day, this house isn't ideally suited to that. If you want to have fun on the lake all day, though, and just come back to your rental to sleep, then this place would work great for you!"

  • Big Chill "4 day extravaganza"

"4 High School buddys & their wives had a blast. We only stayed 4 nights but we knew we wanted to do this again because of "The Glass House" offering. 2 couples drove from metro-Detroit, 1 from Indianapolis & 1 from Allentown, PA. We really enjoyed the house, Lake Erie was handy & excellent. So close to Cedar Point but we never went but we did eat perch most days. The reviews previous to mine are right on target but the main point of my review is this is perfect place for 4 couples. God bless your vacation."

  • Family Vacation

"Me and my family planned a trip to Lake Erie/Cedar Point and found this little gem to stay for the week. It was very comfortable and had plenty of space for our family. It was nice to have a fully stocked kitchen. It kept us from having to eat out every meal. Getting in and out of Cedar Point so easily is a nice bonus if that's part of your plans while there. For the most part, the house was clean and tidy. Had a little bit of an issue with spider webs and spiders throughout the house. And I thought one of the upstairs beds had not had the sheets changed. All in all it was a perfect little getaway for us and we definitely plan on returning next year!"

  • Breathtaking Lodge!!!

"Upon arrival to this property my family and friends were in total awe at the beauty and location of this lodge. The serene location and extremely close proximity to Ash Cave is unreal. When we walked into the lodge it was seriously breathtaking. It was decorated nicely for the fall season and also smelled like fall. The small details put into the floors and wall decor is unbelievable. It was extremely clean and well kept and the pictures on-line do not do its justice! There is so much to do in Hocking Hills sight seeing and exploring wise. However, I did not have to leave this lodge to have a relaxing vacation. There is so much to do from a large hot tub, 2 fireplaces, game room (so much fun spent there), a fire pit and a gazebo. I stayed in the Master Bedroom where there was a private bathroom. The bathroom had a Jacuzzi tub that I relaxed in at night, while reading one of the many books available on the property. I LOVED that this property has a reverse osmosis system so we did not have to deal with well water while showering, etc. Our family and friends enjoyed a fun filled relaxing weekend in a secluded location where we watched the fall foliage on the deck, around the fire pit, in the hot tub and from outside the windows. We cooked out one night and the two grills were very convenient. We all sat around the large dining room table that had a beautiful fall tablecloth, while looking at the fall decorations and plants around the common areas. We also watched the OSU game in the downstairs entertainment area while we played pool. We only left the lodge once to go canoeing and even then it was very hard to leave and we could not wait to get back. The morning came to check out and none of us wanted to leave. We made so many unforgettable memories at the lodge that I will never forget. I have stayed in Hocking Hills several times but this location and property takes the cake! I have been spoiled forever and will always return to this property in the future. I would recommend this property to EVERYONE! The owner was a pleasure to speak with and I have no complaints at all and either did anyone in our group. I LOVE the fact this lodge is ADA accessible! I work with individuals with disabilities and this is a perfect lodge for vacation for individuals living with disabilities! It even has an elevator to get to the bottom fun area!! SO AWESOME! This by far was the most relaxing vacation I've experienced thus far!"

Catawba Island Travel Tips

Finding Your Way to Catawba Island Vacation Rentals

Catawba Island is a small township community on Lake Erie in Ohio. The township is just a short drive away from the Eerie Ottawa Regional Airport; it is a public airport but it does not host commercial flights. The nearest major airport is in Cleveland which is approximately 70 miles away. The Cleveland Hopkins International Airport hosts most major commercial carriers in North America and has frequently scheduled flights to the major cities in the U.S. This would be the airport you would use if traveling from an international destination or from across the states.

A second smaller airport that is closer to Catawba Island is the Toledo Express Airport which is located 10 miles west of the city of Toledo on the far western point of Lake Erie. The airport hosts a variety of commercial airlines on regular regional flight schedules. Most visitors to Catawba Island are from Ohio and the neighboring states of Indiana and Michigan. There is a good road network and driving to your vacation home is one of the most convenient ways to get there. If you do happen to be flying in, you can always arrange a rental car upon arrival.

Best Time of Year to Visit Catawba Island Vacation Houses

Catawba Island is mostly a summer vacation destination. It is popular with water sports and fishing enthusiasts because of its easy access to Lake Erie. The summer days are generally warm and temperatures remain mild overnight. The summer starts in early June and generally lasts until September. The peak vacation period is during July. In the winter months, the area becomes iced over. Heavy snowfalls can occur in the mid-winter months. This doesn't seem to deter enthusiastic fishermen who head out on the ice to enjoy some mid-winter ice fishing. This is also a favorite time of year for snowmobilers to visit.

Things to See and Do near Catawba Island Lodging

Catawba Island is a leisurely vacation destination. Most of the activities are linked to the lake. There are several boat launches and marinas where you can store your boat for the duration of your vacation. Family recreation areas and picnic sites are often located near the boat launches so you can enjoy a fun afternoon out on the lake or along the shoreline. Some vacation homes in Catawba Island have private jetties where you can tie up you boat. This will save you the time and effort of heading off to the boat launch each time you want to head out on the water. If you don't have your own boat, it is often possible to rent a boat from one of the marinas. If you are a newcomer to boating, it's advisable to arrange a charter where an experienced skipper can take you out on the water.

Fishing is one of the most popular activities. You can either fish from the shoreline or on a boat if you want to land the larger species. If you want to spend some time exploring the region, there are many historic places of interest. If you take a drive to the Marblehead Peninsula, you can see Ohio's oldest lighthouse which has been in operation since 1820. This lighthouse has saved countless lives as the area is known to be one of the roughest on Lake Erie in terms of boating and shipping.
