  • Curley's Cabin

"My wife and I recently took a couple of days off and stayed at Curley's Cabin. First of all, let me say that the cabin is rustic. We expected that since the cabin is over 100 years old. The property is absolutely beautiful and with the drive being just over an hour we plan on returning soon and often. -Ted (Westerville, OH)"

  • A Week of Relaxation

"The Lodge on the Lake was everything that it was advertised to be. Our family had a great time for a week swimming, kayaking, and sitting by the fire. We especially enjoyed the quiet mornings on the gazebo watching the mist rise off the lake and listening to the birds. Throughout the day we floated in the water off of the beach and deck. Our dog loved the area and swam along with us most of the day and was "dog tired" (excuse the pun) by the end of the day. The lodge was clean and ready to go on time for us and was stocked with everything that we needed for a great week! It is located close enough to the Hocking Hills attractions if someone chooses to roam around a day or two but we chose to stay on site and relax. Satellite tv reception was very good as we watched the last episode of "24"."

Hocking Hills Travel Tips

Hocking Hills Vacation Rentals Are Some of Ohio’s Most Popular Vacation Spots

Hocking Hills is one of Ohio’s most popular vacation destinations. Its central location provides excellent transportation routes with Interstate Highways 70, 71 and 77 all leading towards the region. The region surrounding Hocking Hills lodging is intersected by both US State Highways and good state routes. To fly to the area, visitors will find Port Columbus International Airport is very conveniently located. The area benefits from long, warm summers and cold winters.

The area of Hocking Hills is one of rugged and raw natural beauty, and steeped in thousands of years of history. In fact, visitors to Hocking Hills vacation rentals will find evidence of the first inhabitants, the Paleo Indians, dating back thousands of years.

Hocking Hills Vacation Houses Are in a Region of Caves

Hocking Hills vacation rentals are close to the most popular attraction of Old Man’s Cave on State Route 664. The six-mile Grandma Gatewood Trail connects the park’s three main areas from Old Man’s Cave and Cedar Falls to Ash Cave. Old Man’s Cave is the burial site of three early inhabitants of the caves--Richard Rowe, Nathaniel and Pat Rayon--who all lived here in the 1700s. At Cedar Falls, visitors will find a remote, stark and beautiful chasm, with natural grottos and waterfalls. From the car park, visitors will head down Democracy Steps, sympathetically designed by artist and architect Akio Hizume. The steps are designed as a gentle walk and suitable for any visitor. The final and most spectacular of the caves is Ash Cave. Its approach is through a narrow, tree-lined ravine with a wonderful array of wildflowers. The cave gets its name from the piles of ash that were discovered in the cave by early settlers. While the origin of the ash is unknown, it is thought that they were the result of campfires from local Indians over hundreds of years. Early settlers also used the cave as a church, due to its impressive size and acoustics.

Five Stunning State Parks Close to Hocking Hills Vacation Houses

When staying in Hocking Hills vacation houses, visitors will find Rock House a unique and fascinating place to explore. Halfway up a 150-foot high cliff are the corridors of Rock House. In the maze of tunnels, created by natural erosion, visitors will find seven arched "windows" and massive sandstone columns holding up the roof of the cave. The cave was home to Native Americans for centuries who found a convenient fresh water supply from the pools created by the rains. Visitors will find ancient cave drawings dating from this period. Legend has it that the cave was also a hideout for local thieves. Another natural wonder here is Rock Bridge, a spectacular natural 100-foot long, 20-foot wide bridge across the ravine below. It is certainly one of the most impressive sites in the region.

Here, there are also five stunning state parks to enjoy. At Lake Logan State Park, anglers can fish for species such as bass, bluegill, catfish and saugeye. The park is also scattered with walking paths through to woods where one can look for local wildlife such as white tailed deer, wild turkey, box turtles, raccoon and red-backed salamander. Tar Hollow is Ohio’s third largest state forest and a spectacular area for enjoying the wilderness. Other parks in the region are Lake Hope, Clear Creek and Wayne National Forest.
