"We rented the combined three properties for a family reunion in May 2015. We used the Mountain View Retreat as the "quiet house" for Grandma, aunties and uncles; the Lodge as the "hub" where all meals were served; and the Cottage as "overflow" for the younger crowd.
I am overwhelmingly pleased with our stay, and especially with the Lodge. From the start of this process to checkout, our interactions with the property manager made this weekend as easy as it could be (to accommodate nearly 40 people!). We recently got married and, instead of holding a wedding, we decided to host both of our families for a weekend family reunion. Once we decided to rent all three houses, there was tremendous flexibility in accommodating our guests to meet their varied needs.
The Lodge was essentially the "hub" for the weekend, although we stocked some snacks in each of the other houses, too. Our guests took advantage of the Lodge's hot tub, the fire pit, the beautiful deck and spacious lawn, numerous sitting areas, garage, ample parking, and comfortable setting. We served all meals (including brunches, dinners, and a Saturday BBQ) on the huge butcher block island in the kitchen. It got understandably crowded with 15 women buzzing around ("What can I do? How can I help?") but since this weekend was all about getting to know each other, it was really nice. The Kentucky Derby played on the TV, others would sit at the huge dining room table and play Apples to Apples while kids drew with sidewalk chalk on the driveway (we cleaned that up before we left!). Having stayed at VRBO's before, we dressed up the property a little, and made it our own "home" with some sweet signs (so guests knew the houses), white Christmas lights around the hot tub (it was rainy all weekend and kinda dark), and we brought some potted plants.
One concern we had was that, since the Lodge was our "hub", we generated lots of trash. Fortunately, there were about six huge trash cans on the side of the house for our use! Recycling had to come home with us.
The only negative comments I heard about the Lodge were that the downstairs washer was "to be avoided" because it had a musty water smell to it; we all used the upstairs appliances (but fortunately, the house has two sets). Also, when we toured the house in January, there was a pool table downstairs, but for some reason it was not present at the time of our visit. Bummer.
I highly recommended this place! We'll be back!"
