"Our family just returned from a week-long stay at the Riverside Lodge and cottage and can't say enough about this property. Right on the beautiful Deschutes River, with a little dock just a few steps down the hill, the Lodge was perfect for gathering and the cottage gave us a little extra space for quiet-time and extra beds.
We spent a lot of time on that little dock: fishing, star-gazing, bird-watching, jumping into the river, casting off paddle-boards, and reading in the sun. The grounds were big enough for us to have a day of Bocce, bean-bag toss, and hula-hooping contests. The location is close to La Pines National Park, the Lava Cave and Monument, and the village at Sunriver. We rented a million floaties at nearby ToyHouse Toys and spent a day floating down the river; we put in a couple of miles upriver, stopped at the Lodge for lunch and to fill up the coolers, and then continued the float to a pull-out spot a couple of hours later.
We were a big group: 22 in all, including 3 kids under 10, 3 teenagers, and 5 over-60's. We were very comfortable in the space and even had room for everyone to eat dinners together.
Being close to the river and wetlands we saw osprey, ducks, geese, frogs, fish, tiny chipmunks, giant squirrels, and deer, and heard a pack of coyotes singing a few of the nights.
I was worried about the one bathroom in the cottage but it turned out to be a complete non-issue since there were so many in the Lodge.
Lastly, the property manager was a pleasure to work with: responsive, pleasant, and professional."
