  • Secluded cabin

"We loved this cottage. Everything was perfect. We felt like we were the only ones there. Property has surprises around every corner and the trails are great to explore. Doug and Barbara are wonderful and we also enjoyed spending time with Jed the wonder dog! Highly recommend for anyone wanting peace and solitude."

  • Good Value and Great Location

"The Columbia House was a nice place to stay while visiting the Gorge and Mt. Hood scenic areas with friends from out of town. The location is excellent -- you can walk almost anywhere for shopping, restaurants, and evening entertainment. Safeway is less than a mile away and walk or bike-able. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you could need including basic spices and condiments. All appliances and equipment are in good working order. The house is clean and with comfortable furniture, nice linens, and mattresses. BBQ outside is very nice. Attractive landscaping and general care is evident. The house is in excellent condition. There are also plenty of nooks, porches, and levels for individuals in larger groups to have privacy or come together for meals and social time. Having said all that, there are two points our group felt were important to make. First, two of the four bedrooms (sleeping 3 of the 8) are in the basement. This was not clear from the description and only hinted at with the photos. The basement is not finished and smells damp even during a very hot summer. Not moldy, just musty. One bedroom with a double bed is unfinished with exposed pipes that bang away when water is being used, a very low ceiling, and no window or form of ventilation. No one would consider this space a bedroom, although it is furnished like one. It is really just storage space. The other basement bedroom with the trundle is very tiny with a small window at street level that looks out to the tires in the driveway. It is finished, but not very pleasant and very noisy. The basement bathroom is finished and nice. This is the other full bath in the house, the other being on the 2nd floor. The deck off the basement is nice as well for a view of the garden and river. Just keep in mind with larger groups over 3-4 that several will be stuck in this area. There appears to be another bedroom on the second floor, but for some reason it was locked and "off limits". The second issue we had was the noise from I84. Because of the proximity to the freeway, there is a constant background sound that can be very loud while on the back deck and also from the open bedroom windows. There were times when the train and trucks combined to roar us right out of our conversation, and we are a loud city group used to urban noise. With these caveats in mind, we felt the good far overcame the bad, but we wanted others booking houses to be aware."

  • Great Golfing Venue

"For the past five years twelve "girl- friends" have gathered at this lovely home in Welches for four days of golf. We have all had such a great time in this big house talking about our golf rounds, renewing old friendships, and having wonderful conversations on the large outside deck. We're planning to return next year."

  • Fantastic Views, Comfortable Home

"Two couples from NJ recently spent a long weekend in Hood River with this cabin as our base for exploring the Hood River area. We wish we'd had more time, as there is so much to do! Kayak rentals, sailboard lessons and kiteboard lessons are just some of the water based activities on the Columbia that are available right here. Hiking trails are also plentiful. The listing is accurate in the description and in the photos. We were easily able to find the cabin in it's semi-remote location, even though we arrived in the dark, using the detailed directions provided by the owner. For anyone seeking a "cabin in the woods" getaway, we can recommend VRBO 302136!"
